Loki Show Described By Marvel Studios Head As Intriguingly Different

Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige, says Loki is an intriguingly different Disney+ series and entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tom Hiddleston's days as the God of Mischief appeared to be over after Avengers: Infinity War, but his return in Avengers: Endgame paved the way for a new take on the beloved character. A version of Loki from 2012 escaped from the Avengers using the Tesseract, and this will result in the Time Variance Authority coming after him to help repair a broken timeline.

Loki will be the third MCU series to debut on Disney+ once it arrives in June. As high as expectations normally are for a new MCU project, the excitement for Hiddleston's show has continued to grow beyond those levels as time has passed. Some of this is due to the cast and the expected story of Loki, but the quality of Marvel's first Disney+ shows raised the bar too. WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier have been wildly popular as fans dive back into the MCU after over a year without any movies. Marvel Studios' usual approach to give each property a different style and tone has helped, as well, and fans should expect Loki to be quite unique.

During a recent interview with IMDbrief (via Comicbook), Marvel Studios chief, Kevin Feige, spoke about how different their MCU shows have and will continue to be from one another. He cited what made WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier stand apart from other Marvel programming and then teased that Loki is a completely its own thing as well. [WandaVision] is probably the most overt level - black and white, old-fashioned aspect ratio - but every show that we’re working on I think is about creative swings for both Marvel Studios, the MCU, and television. So I’m very excited about what we’ve already shown on Falcon and The Winter Solider. That is a very big scale epic action buddy series that we’re excited about. Loki, we’ve not said much about, but is intriguingly different and I think we’ve called it a crime thriller, which is not something you would necessarily think of when it came to Loki.

Fans recently got a better idea of how interestingly different Loki will be after the release of the official trailer. It teased his work with the TVA to explore branched timelines he created by taking an Infinity Stone to a different place or time. The trailer highlighted the fun banter between Hiddleston and Owen Wilson's Mobius M. Mobius, but the crime thriller vibe Feige discusses is also felt. However, it is unclear if the crime at the center of Loki is based around the TVA trying to follow Loki across the multiverse or if they are working together to stop something else.

Feige is right about Loki's intriguing approach to this story, and it will hopefully be a continuation of Marvel Studios' effort to keep the MCU feeling fresh. There will be more official MCU content in 2021 than ever before with four movies and five Disney+ shows. New content will arrive almost every week this year and that could lead to some viewers feeling burnt out at some point. But as long as Marvel Studios continues to make each movie or show look and feel different from the rest, it is less likely that this will become an issue. Hopefully Loki will deliver on its promise and keep fans excited for what else is to come.
