Marvel's Disney+ series Loki will finally give the God of Mischief a love interest, but it isn't quite in the way one might expect. Starting next Wednesday, Tom Hiddleston will once again slip into Loki's shoes in his biggest MCU showcase yet. After spending several movies in his brother Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) shadow, Loki will lead his own Disney+ series. Loki will pick up with the version of the trickster from Avengers: Endgame who stole the Tesseract and disappeared to places unknown. His meddling with the pre-ordained timeline soon gets him into trouble with the Time Variance Authority, aka the TVA, or those tasked with maintaining the specific order of things.

As the trailers have so far hinted, Loki looks to be both a wild adventure across space and time, as well as a deep dive into the title character. Loki has long been a fan favorite within the MCU, though his appearances have always been centered around Thor. This series presents an opportunity to truly dig into Loki's identity while still supplying plenty of mayhem.

In between all that, Loki will find time for love, though not quite in the romantic sense. In a profile with Vanity FairLoki's head writer Michael Waldron talked about one of the show's most central relationships: The one between Loki and Owen Wilson's Mobius M. Mobius. "Mobius and Loki, that’s one of the love stories you might see in Loki for sure," Waldron said. "Although if you print that, knowing our fans, they’re going to take it the wrong way." Already sensing the way that could go, the interviewer compared the two to FBI agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) and con man Frank Abagnale Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) from Catch Me If You Can. "Exactly. Right," Waldron said.

Mobius is the TVA agent tasked with keeping Loki in line as they go about fixing what he broke. The various clips and trailers for Loki have teased their dynamic, which promises to be full of banter as Mobius gets under Loki's skin. The comparison to Catch Me If You Can feels apt; one character is the law-abiding man while the other likes to break rules whenever it suits him. It isn't hard to guess which one is which.

While the relationship between Loki and Mobius sounds like it will be a lot of fun, some fans might be disappointed to learn Hiddleston's character isn't quite destined for romantic love just yet. Since Loki is often depicted as queer in the comics, there have been rumors of the Disney+ series exploring that. It remains to be seen if there is any truth to those, but it's clear that Loki will at least form some kind of meaningful bond in his adventure. That's still pretty cool.
