Tom Hiddleston returns for Loki season 2 in new set images where he wears a tuxedo. Premiering in 2021 on Disney+, the God of Mischief received own show after years of reigning as one of the MCU's standout characters. Loki is set to return for its sophomore year sometime in 2023. Although Marvel Studios has yet to announce a specific release date, production for Loki season 2 has begun.

While Hiddleston has been in the MCU since its early years, it has only been in Phase 4 that he's finally gotten the focus that he deserves. The Loki series showed the God of Mischief as he grappled with his real identity. Throughout the course of its narrative, he met other versions of himself, including a female variant named Sylvie (Sophia di Martino). Their whole adventure ended with a showdown versus He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), a variant of Kang the Conqueror and the creator of the TVA. By the end of Loki season 1, the multiverse has gone haywire, with alternate realities clashing with each other. Meanwhile, the God of Mischief is sent to an entirely different timeline, one that is overseen by Kang.

Filming for what comes next for Loki has begun, and in a new batch of season 2 set images (via @BRMarvelNews), Hiddleston is seen back in character. Although, instead of wearing his usual Loki costume, he's dressed formally in a tuxedo. Check out the images below:

Before the aforementioned batch of Loki season 2 set images featuring Hiddleston emerged, photos of the show's location made the rounds online. Those snaps include a reference to obscure Marvel Comics villain Zaniac. It's unknown if these pictures have anything to do with each other. At this point, it's difficult to gauge what's exactly happening in this shot of Loki season 2, but it's an interesting setting considering that much of season 1 was set in new, out-of-this-world environments. For what it's worth, it is possible that whatever they are filming may be something that isn't going to be featured in the show down the line. Perhaps this Loki may not even be the Sacred Timeline's iteration, but another variant. As established in the MCU, variants can look the same or different from each other.

Though the context is murky, it is still thrilling to see Hiddleston back on set as the God of Mischief. Loki season 1 ended with a major cliffhanger that holds big implications for the MCU. The long gap between seasons has only led to more questions about how the multiverse works in the franchise, and many assume Loki season 2 will hold some needed answers. Though the show itself won't return until next year, perhaps more set photos like the ones above can shed some light on what's to come.
