Tom Hiddleston gets cryptic when responding to the question of whether Loki will receive a season 2. In just under two weeks, Hiddleston will once again play wily god Loki for his very own Disney+ series. When audiences last saw Loki, an alternate version of the character escaped with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. That "variant" will be the lead of the Disney+ show, as he gets picked up by the Time Variance Authority and recruited to fix the mistakes he inflicted upon the timeline. Loki will also star Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Sophia Di Martino, and Richard E. Grant.

Even before Loki kicks off his 6-episode run, many are wondering what will come after. While some signs point to Loki appearing in next year's Thor: Love and Thunder, it seems just as likely that he will return for a second season of his show. Though Marvel has yet to confirm the existence of a Loki season 2, there have been signs of it being in development. Head writer Michael Waldron scored an official deal with Marvel, which reportedly includes returning in some capacity for Loki season 2. Additionally, the show was included on a recent production listing.

If Loki is getting a sophomore run, its leading man isn't saying anything. Hiddleston recently spoke to Total Film magazine (via GamesRadar) and was asked about if some kind of follow-up could be in the works. Naturally, Hiddleston didn't give a definitive answer, instead pivoting to the unpredictable nature of the MCU. He said:

"At this point, I have learned that for me to have any expectations is futile and a fool’s errand. Having said goodbye to the character once, twice, three times, I do not know what the future holds. But I’m excited to find out. I think we could never have seen 10 years ahead.

"However, that would be to underestimate the intelligence of Kevin Feige! Maybe he did see into the future, and he predicted all this, and, in fact, he works for the TVA, and reality is unfolding as it should, and we’re all just along for the ride..."

Hiddleston has a point when it comes to his longer-than-expected time in the MCU. Originally, Loki was supposed to die in Thor: The Dark World, but fan enthusiasm for the character helped him stay alive. He later really did die for good in Avengers: Infinity War, but the existence of the Loki Variant from Endgame has allowed for the creation of the Disney+ show. In other words, there's almost no point in trying to guess what will come next.

Still, a Loki season 2 remains a strong possibility. Even beyond the compelling behind the scenes evidence, Marvel producer Nate Moore said Loki is a show with a great deal of potential beyond the first six episodes. It certainly seems like all signs are so far pointing to the show living beyond one season, but until Marvel officially confirms it, it's always best to approach the idea of season 2 with some caution. Loki's journey over the 6 episodes can provide clues as to where he will go next, so that can be the focus for now. Perhaps when they're over, Marvel will announce there is more to come with Loki.
