Promotional footage for Disney+'s 2023 releases reveals the return of a key character in Loki season 2. In 2021, Loki established the foundations for the MCU's Multiverse Saga with its exploration of alternate timelines, variants, and the multiverse. Loki season 1 also set up the arrival of Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror, whose benevolent variant He Who Remains hid behind the guide of the Time-Keepers, supposed protectors of the Sacred Timeline. The Time-Keepers will be appearing in the 2023 release of Loki season 2. The Disney+ Twitter account has shared a video that includes Loki striking a wall that depicts paintings of the Time-Keepers next to one of the beheaded puppets. Watch the footage below:

The paintings also feature the Sacred Timeline, which resembles the animated illustrations shown in Loki season 1. The Time-Keeper's head has wires coming out of its neck, which suggests it's the same puppet Sylvie destroyed. Loki is hitting the wall with a pruning stick, which the TVA uses to cast variants out of their timelines and into the MCU's easter-egg-filled Void.

Why Loki Season 2 Is Bringing Back The Time-Keepers

Sylvie and the Time-Keepers in Loki Episode 4

Loki season 1 may have revealed that the Time-Keepers weren't real villains, but that doesn't mean they are no longer relevant. He Who Remains' TVA is so secretive that not even high-ranking members like Owen Wilson's Mobius M. Mobius or Gugu Mbatha-Raw's Ravonna Renslayer knew who pulls the strings. With He Who Remains dead and Loki stuck in a different version of the TVA, Tom Hiddleston's anti-hero is now on his own to keep looking for answers, and the Time-Keeper puppets are a good place to start.

In fact, the Time-Keeper androids may become a useful tool for Loki's story in Loki season 2. Since Mobius doesn't recognize Loki in the new TVA, Loki could go back to the Time-Keepers' headquarters and show his ally the true nature of the puppets before explaining Kang the Conqueror's origin and true intentions. Whether the decapitated Time-Keeper is the exact android Sylvie beheaded or one that Loki decapitates after the TVA changes is unclear, however.

Kang the Conqueror's role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania may provide more clues about the plot of Loki season 2. It's possible that the aftermath of the villain's battle against Ant-Man in the Quantum Realm gives the Time-Keepers a new twist. But for now, all that's known for certain is that they will be some of the characters that will return in Loki season 2.
