Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania!Marvel has revealed Loki season 2's story thanks to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's post-credits scene setup. Avengers: Endgame might largely have focused on wrapping up the Infinity Saga, but it also played a key role in setting up the Marvel Cinematic Universe's shift to the multiverse. This was clear with Loki stealing the Tesseract setting up Tom Hiddleston's Disney+ spinoff show. At the same time, the Avengers' time travel was theorized to help set up Kang the Conqueror's introduction later on. The two storylines connected in Loki season 1 as He Who Remains entered the picture to give everyone a glimpse of the MCU's next main villain.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania continues the ascent of Kang the Conqueror, one that will include multiple appearances leading up to Avengers: Secret Wars concluding Phase 6 and the Multiverse Saga. The large presence of Jonathan Majors' MCU villain has long been expected to include a return appearance in Loki season 2, but Marvel Studios refrained from confirming these theories. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's post-credits scene changes this by directly setting up the massive role that Kang the Conqueror's variants will play in Loki season 2's story.

How Loki Season 1 Ended

The Kang statue in Loki

The reason why Kang has been expected to be part of Loki season 2 is because of how the first season ended. The finale revolved around Loki and Sylvie finally arriving at the Citadel at the end of time, the base of operation for He Who Remains as he oversees the protection of the Sacred Timeline. This was where audiences first learned about the first Multiversal War between the different Kang variants. More importantly, it is also where He Who Remains died after Sylvie decided to reject his offer to control the timeline. The end result was the Sacred Timeline branching and a warning that more Kang variants would come.

The very end of Loki season 1 follows the main god of mischief as he finds himself in a brand-new universe, one where Mobius does not recognize him. The more pressing issue when it came to setting up Loki season 2's story was the reveal that this new version of the Time Variance Authority is openly run by a version of Kang. After previously operating under the guise of the Time-Keepers, the events of the finale have brought Kang's involvement with the TVA to the forefront. Understandably, this left Loki shaken as he was now without Sylvie, lost his friendship with Mobius, and believes that Kang is someone worth fearing.

Loki Season 2 Plot: Loki & Mobius Are Going After Kang Variants

Loki Episode 2 Loki and Mobius At The Ren Fair

The specific plot of Loki season 2 is now more clear after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's end credits scene. It showed Loki and Mobius reunited in a crowd full of people watching a presentation by a man named Victor Timely. Loki and Mobius seem to be aware of something no one else is: Victor Timely is a Kang variant. They note that he is a terrifying presence as his speech begins. While only a few lines are audible, this Kang variant also appears to be the most interested in controlling time. Seeing Loki and Mobius back together is no surprise, as previous Loki season 2 footage confirmed the friendship would live on.

The more important Loki season 2 story setup in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the idea that Loki and Mobius are searching the multiverse for Kang variants. The short scene does not provide the context or motive for this mission, so it is unclear if they are doing this on their own behalf or on orders from the new TVA overlord Kang variant. In either case, Marvel certainly is setting up the idea that Loki season 2's story revolves around Loki and Mobius going after Kang variants. Based on other parts of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, that could also mean encountering incursions.

Why Victor Timely Is Important To MCU's Multiverse Saga

Kang the Conqueror in Quantumania and Victor Timely in Marvel Comics

The presence of Victor Timely in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's post-credits scene and Loki season 2's main story is quite notable. This Kang variant is an identity created by the main Kang after he is defeated by the Avengers and needs time to regroup. He winds up in 1900s Wisconsin where he founds the town of Timely and creates a blossoming enterprise in Timely Industries. He also rose to power to become the town's mayor during this time. Kang's goals when he was Victor Timely were far smaller in scale than many of the other variants, but the Loki season 2 story setup teases he is still worth fearing.

Victor Timely should be important to Loki season 2's story since Marvel set up this specific Kang variant during the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania tag. However, he could also have a larger role to play within the MCU's Multiverse Saga. Victor Timely did not appear to be with the Council of Kangs in the mid-credits tease, which might be a sign that he is not aligned with the variants who want to rule the multiverse. As a result, Victor Timely could be the guise of the MCU's Prime Kang, one who could possibly be a hero and help the Avengers stave off the flood of variants coming their way.
