Loki season 2 star Gugu Mbatha-Raw teases what lies ahead for her character Ravonna Renslayer. Currently standing as the only live-action Marvel Disney+ series to earn a season 2, Loki is set to return next summer. It will build upon the MCU's ever-growing Multiverse Saga as it picks up from where season 1 left off. After discovering the creator of the Time Variance Authority, He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), Tom Hiddleston's titular trickster was unable to stop his variant Sylvie (Sophie Di Martino) from killing the omnipotent being; as a result of He Who Remains' death, the multiverse has been split wide open, leaving Loki stranded in a TVA he doesn't recognize.

Loki season 2 will see the returns of most cast members from the show's freshman run, including Mbatha-Raw. The actor plays TVA judge Ravonna Renslayer, who, in the season 1 finale, was revealed to be a variant, just like everyone else in the organization. Speaking with ET Online, Mbatha-Raw teases a "bolder and more surreal" season 2 and calls it "really exciting." As for what Loki has in store for Renslayer, Mbatha-Raw says this:

"In Loki, Ravonna is a powerful presence... selfishly, Renslayer makes it out of the TVA, which I'm really excited about."

How Loki Season 2 Can Improve Renslayer's Character

Ravonna Renslayer preciding a trial

In the comics, Renslayer is a formidable leader with strong ties to Kang the Conqueror. She played a key role in Loki season 1, but amid the intrigue surrounding Sylvie and Loki's quest to uncover the truth about the TVA, Renslayer often fell to the wayside. However, this will hopefully change in Loki season 2. While it hasn't been confirmed that Majors will return to play Kang, it seems highly likely that the new big bad will loom large over Loki season 2 considering how the season 1 finale ended. Even if Kang doesn't physically appear onscreen, there is a good chance Renslayer's comics relationship with him will be woven into season 2 somehow. Additionally, Mbatha-Raw's new tease of Renslayer getting out of the TVA suggests her arc will deepen beyond the organization that dominated her season 1 storyline. She might be investigating the TVA herself, or she could be hunting down Loki and Sylvie as the multiverse continues to splinter.

What To Expect From Loki Season 2

Mobius offers his hand to Loki in Loki episode 1

As is tradition with most Marvel projects, a good portion of Loki season 2 remains tightly under wraps. However, some details have been revealed. In addition to Hiddleston and Mbatha-Raw, returning cast members include Di Martino, Owen Wilson, and Wunmi Mosaku. Already, Loki season 2 has added some new actors into the mix, such as Everything Everywhere All At Once breakout Ke Huy Quan and Game of Thrones alum Kate Dickie. Their roles are being kept a secret for the time being, and with a summer premiere date planned, it will likely be some time before additional details emerge.

Based on some set videos and photos, Loki season 2 will find the titular anti-hero reteaming with Wilson's Mobius M. Mobius and venturing into a variety of situations and time periods. Viewers will recall that the season finale ended with Mobius forgetting who Loki is, so it can be assumed that at least the initial moments of season 2 will pick up with Loki trying to jog his friend's memory. With Kang making his official MCU debut in February's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, it seems likely that the movie will lay the foundation for whatever is ahead in Loki season 2. Until then, viewers can continue to speculate about where the Disney+ series will go next.
