A new round-up of production dates for upcoming movie and TV show shoots mentions Loki season 2, seemingly confirming the renewal. Loki is one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in 2011's Thor. Tom Hiddleston plays Loki, a charming, funny, and mischievous villain who goes from bad guy to anti-hero and back. Hiddleston has reprised the role five films since, including both Thor sequels, appearing as the main villain in The Avengers, and returning for smaller roles in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Hiddleston's popularity in the role certainly influenced Disney+ to commission a Loki TV show, announcing in 2018 that it would be one of a whole host of series featuring characters from the MCU, including WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Hawkeye. The show is currently billed as a mini-series consisting of just six episodes. It will likely follow Loki as he travels through time after gaining control of the Tesseract during the events of Endgame. The cast includes Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sasha Lane, Sophia Di Martino, and Richard E. Grant in an unknown role rumored to be Old Loki due to his resemblance to the character and Hiddleston.

A new listing in Production Weekly (via LRM) hints that Loki has been renewed for season 2. The latest issue of the industry publication, which lists upcoming projects for crew and service providers to find work, lists a January 2022 filming start date for Loki season 2, which will be shot under the working title of Architect. Though not official word from Disney, the report is likely to confirm Loki's renewal given that PW simply lists production start dates and doesn't speculate on potential productions.

If the listing is correct, Loki becomes the first of Marvel's slate of Disney+ MCU shows to be renewed for season 2. The studio has been hesitant to comment on whether the shows will feature multiple seasons, leaving fans unsure as to whether each series is a self-contained story or part of a more extended narrative plan that could fit into the MCU at multiple phases. This report, at least, suggests Loki's time-traveling show is the latter.

It's also a sign that Loki is good enough for Disney and Marvel to have renewed it before it screens. The studios believe they have a hit on their hands, with Loki potentially joining The Mandalorian as one of Disney+'s marquee titles. Fans will have to wait until next year to find out, of course, but this latest news is a positive sign for those who can't get enough of Hiddleston's God of Mischief.
