Audiences will have to wait just a bit longer for Tom Hiddleston's return as Loki season 2's release has been confirmed for Summer 2023. The Disney+ series follows the titular character as he tries to solve the mysteries of the Time Variance Authority and earn back his freedom after escaping during Avengers: Endgame's Time Heist. Loki will learn the truth of the multiverse and the dangerous tightrope between allowing free will and maintaining order across the Sacred Timeline.

Alongside Hiddleston, the cast for the series included Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Owen Wilson, Wunmi Mosaku, Sasha Lane, Sophia Di Martino, Sasha Lane, Jack Veal, Richard E. Grant, Eugene Cordero, Tara Strong, DeObia Oparei and Jonathan Majors. Rick and Morty alum and future Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness scribe Michael Waldron created the series for Marvel Studios. Loki premiered to largely favorable reviews from critics and audiences alike and was a ratings hit for Disney+, quietly earning a season 2 renewal before season 1 ended and now audiences have exciting news about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series.

Shortly after their Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con kicked off, at which Screen Rant is in attendance, Marvel Studios revealed that Loki season 2 is set for a Summer 2023 release. No exact release date was announced at the time of writing, though a Summer 2023 release date puts it two years after season 1 premiered on Disney+. Filming is currently underway on Loki season 2.

Loki Season 2

Given production on Loki season 2 kicked off this past June, it may not come as a surprise to most that the series has been set to return to Disney+ in Summer 2023. It does, however, offer a promising sign that filming is moving swiftly on the next chapter of the MCU title, which audiences have gotten glimpses of with set photos showing Loki visiting a 1970-set McDonald's, where Sophia Di Martino's Sylvie is working, as well as the return of fan-favorite character, Owen Wilson's Mobius. The Loki season 2 set photos have also offered a look at the show's first new MCU character with Blindspotting star Rafael Casal, though his reported major role is currently being kept under wraps.

Anticipation has been through the roof for Loki season 2 since its finale ended on a major cliffhanger with Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief trapped in an alternate timeline where no one seemed to recognize him. Audiences' jaws were left further ajar with the reveal that the TVA he was in was seemingly being run by a variant of Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror, not only setting up his potential role in season 2, but also as one of the next big bads of the MCU. While audiences await further details on the next season, they can revisit Loki season 1 streaming in its entirety on Disney+ now.
