New details have emerged indicating that Loki season 2 will undo the biggest twist from its season 1 finale — but Marvel Studios has a good reason for this. Filming has started for the Tom Hiddleston-led show's season 2. While Marvel Studios is characteristically being mum about details regarding Loki season 2, set images and videos have surfaced providing new information on what to expect when the God of Mischief returns to Disney+.

Throughout Loki season 1, the villain turned anti-hero met new friends, including Mobius (Owen Wilson), a Time Variance Authority (TVA) agent, which whom he developed a brother-like bond. At the end of Loki, it was revealed that the God of Mischief was instead sent to an alternate iteration of the organization personally managed by He Who Remains' (Jonathan Majors) more ruthless variant, Kang the Conqueror, where he met a different version of Mobius — one who does not know who he is. This was a clear launching pad for what comes next for the God of Mischief, with season 2 immediately confirmed.

Loki coming in contact with a different Mobius and separated from the original one would have forced him to tackle the looming disaster from the multiverse going haywire alone. It seems like that's no longer going to be the case, however, as this particular plot twist has been reversed already. Based on the new Loki season 2 set images, Loki and Mobius reunited. Both are wearing tuxedos and attending a formal function. The photos imply that the characters have somehow re-teamed up, which effectively undoes the Loki season 1 finale and its biggest plot twist. Whether this means Loki reunited with the original Mobius or he endeared himself with this new one, the fact of the matter is that they’re working with each other again and that he no longer has to go on this new mission on his own.

Why Are Loki & Mobius Back Together In Season 2?

Loki and Morbius at the TVA in Loki

Undoing the Loki season 1 finale twist is inevitable, as Loki and Mobius' dynamic was one of the best things about the show. While the God of Mischief's relationship with Sylvie was divisive, his friendship with the TVA Agent was immediately well-received. It would be foolish for Marvel Studios to totally get rid of it. Now, they’re leaning on it, not just for its overall storytelling, but also for Loki's complete movie and show arc as well. Ever since the Asgardian Prince was introduced in the MCU all the way back in Kenneth Branagh's Thor, he has been mostly on his own, with no constant ally and little in the way of friends to rely on. Granted that Loki and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) always find a way to work together, it just isn't the same as having a constant companion and confidante, which Mobius could be. As the Asgardian prince continues his MCU redemption arc, it would be great to see his TVA friend be with him every step of the way.

Marvel Studios has yet to announce a specific premiere date for Loki season 2. That being said, it should release sometime next year, so an official trailer may still be way ahead. With filming for the show already ongoing, however, expect more set content to reveal new details about what lies ahead for the God of Mischief and his evolving relationship with Mobius.
