Henry Cavill debunks rumors that he joined the cast of Loki season 2. Marvel Studios brought Tom Hiddleston's god of mischief back for a multiverse solo series in Phase 4 after Avengers: Endgame created another chance to keep him around. The show's success meant Marvel renewed Loki season 2. Tom Hiddleston returns as the titular character, while audiences will also see more of Owen Wilson's Mobius, Sophia Di Martino's Sylvie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw's Renslayer, and likely Jonathan Majors' Kang. Since the first season included several major cameos, such as Richard E. Grant's Classic Loki, rumors have swirled about who else could be in Loki season 2.

One of the biggest rumors swirling about Loki season 2 is that Henry Cavill will appear. Best known for playing Superman in several DC movies and currently starring in The Witcher for Netflix, rumors have suggested a meta-quality to his potential casting. The Loki season 2 rumors said Henry Cavill was playing Hyperion, Marvel's equivalent of Superman and a member of the Squadron Supreme (Marvel's Justice League spoof). Even though no credible sources have backed up these reports, many have continued to be excited about the possibility that Henry Cavill's Hyperion will be in Loki season 2.

During a recent chat with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused Podcast (via Comicbook), Henry Cavill addressed rumors of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The conversation comes days after Cavill made his long-awaited return as Superman thanks to a surprise Black Adam cameo. According to Cavill, he is not in Loki season 2. He said, "As far as I know, I am not going to be in Loki... It would be a tricky one to handle at this stage… If James Gunn can do it, maybe I can too." The actor's response references the recent news that James Gunn will co-lead DC Studios amidst finishing a few MCU projects.

Henry Cavill's Superman Return Prevents An MCU Role

The idea of Henry Cavill joining the MCU in Loki or another project is something that continued to gain momentum in recent years because his Superman future with DC appeared to be grim. Fans began to hope that Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios would then get Cavill to join the MCU, possibly as Hyperion, Captain Britain, or another character, if DC was not going to use him. Now that Henry Cavill's Superman return has happened, his commitment to playing the Man of Steel will likely prevent him joining the MCU. Even if there is not a contractual clause to prevent him from taking an MCU role, he admits that it would be "tricky" to do so right now.

Henry Cavill's return in Black Adam's end credits seemingly suggests that he will be very busy in the years to come with his Superman role. It is no secret that Dwayne Johnson wants Black Adam to fight Superman, but it will not happen in Black Adam 2. There are also new efforts at Warner Bros. and DC Studios to develop Man of Steel 2 as a starring vehicle for Cavill. Now that James Gunn is leading DC Studios with Peter Safran, they have already committed to helping revitalize Superman's big screen presence. So, it seems that Henry Cavill will not be in Loki season 2 or any other MCU project any time soon.
