Marvel Studios is developing limited series for Disney’s streaming service focused on live-action MCU characters like Scarlet Witch and Loki. Disney is looking to expand their pop culture dominance with the launch of a streaming service of their own, and aren’t shying away from major content. Jon Favreau is developing the first live-action Star Wars show, but Disney’s other major brand, Marvel, is getting in on the content boom too.

Original Marvel content has been confirmed to be on the way to the service for awhile, but what exactly it would be wasn’t clear. Now, fans can rest assured that some major and familiar MCU characters will help kick this off.

Variety reports Marvel Studios is developing several limited series for the upcoming Disney streaming service. Two of the projects known to be in development focus on Scarlet Witch and Loki. Both Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston are expected to reprise their MCU roles. Additional projects are also in the works, but the other characters that will be involved aren't known. Marvel and Disney are reportedly looking to make these shows six to eight episodes a piece, and grant them budgets that rival movies.

This is a major development for Marvel's TV presence, as these limited series will be closely looked after by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. He will produce all the shows, and is expected to be very involved overall. This is also why well-known characters and actors will be coming back, absolutely connecting these series to the larger MCU continuity - while ABC and Netflix shows are just barely connected. However, don't expect an Iron Man or Captain America series, as these shows are designed to highlight supporting characters who didn't get their own films.

The decision to go with Loki and Scarlet Witch as two of the first spinoffs makes sense. Hiddleston is one of the most beloved actors in the MCU, and that's partially why Loki transformed from a true villain at the start to an almost hero. This does not confirm that his death in Avengers: Infinity War was fake though, as his or any of the other shows could be prequels. Loki is thousands of years old after all, so this limited series is really just a chance to get Hiddleston back in the role and further explore his character.

Scarlet Witch is another great choice too, especially if her show were to come after Avengers 4. She's mastered her (possibly mutant) powers now and could go on some very wild adventures as a result. But, they could also take her back to her days working under Captain America and Black Widow. Whatever path they end up taking, both of these series have plenty of potential. There's currently no word on when they'll go into production, but if Disney wants at least one of them ready for the streaming service's launch in late 2019, then more news should come soon.
