Now that Loki season 1 is over, here's what we know about Tom Hiddleston's Marvel Cinematic Universe future in Phase 4. Hiddleston captivated audiences for the first time with his portrayal of the god of mischief in 2011's Thor, and it is quite surprising to see him still involved with the growing franchise. Loki faked his death multiple times in the past and seemed to die for real in Avengers: Infinity War at Thanos' hand. However, the time travel story in Avengers: Endgame gave Marvel Studios a loophole to keep Hiddleston around and make him the star of a Loki Disney+ show.

Loki began immediately after Hiddleston's escape from the Avengers in 2012 when the Time Variance Authority tracked him down. Loki was deemed a Variant by the TVA for using the Tesseract to escape, which created a branched timeline in the Sacred Timeline. This kicked off a new story for the trickster about what he really wants in life, self-identity, his place in the multiverse, and so much more. This Loki Variant is now where Hiddleston's MCU future lies, and Loki's season 1 finale sets him up to be a big part of Phase 4 moving forward.

Hiddleston's biggest role as Loki in the future of the MCU and Phase 4 is with Loki season 2. It was heavily reported even before the first season debuted on Disney+ that Marvel Studios was working on another season of Loki, but those plans were not confirmed until the finale. Instead of a traditional post-credits scene that sets up where Hiddleston's Loki, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson), or even Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) will appear next, episode 6 concludes with a tag confirming Loki season 2 is officially happening. It isn't known when the show will next chapter will air, but Hiddleston will be back to star as the god of mischief.

Loki's presence is expected to continue in Phase 4 in other ways as well. The Loki season 1 ending directly set up the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and now it appears that Loki himself will appear in the sequel. This won't be the first time Loki and Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange cross paths in the MCU, as they briefly shared the screen in Thor: Ragnarok, but that was also with the original Loki and not Hiddleston's current Variant form. Given how Loki ends, it is unclear how he'll appear in Doctor Strange 2 and how big of a role it includes. But, if Loki caused the multiverse of madness, then there is the potential for him to play a small but pivotal role.

While some might expect that Loki will also be featured in Thor: Love and Thunder given his past as a main character in the franchise, all indications point to that not being the case. So, if the Variant Loki is going to reunite with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) at some point, it likely won't be in the upcoming movie. There is also one more confirmed role for Tom Hiddleston's Loki in Phase 4. He is among the many MCU stars reprising their roles for the animated series What If...? Loki's role in the show has yet to be fully revealed, but he has been shown in the What If trailers with the full Asgardian army behind him on Earth and facing down SHIELD. If Loki is to appear in another Phase 4 MCU movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania could be a possibility now that he is familiar with Kang.
