Loki is officially the most-watched Marvel Studios series on the Disney+ service. A spin-off following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Loki follows a variant of the titular character (Tom Hiddleston) in the MCU that is captured by the Time Variance Authority (TVA), who are responsible for preserving the Sacred Timeline. Throughout the course of the MCU series, Loki uncovers a vast conspiracy about the origins of the TVA, and the status of the multiverse, and undergoes a heroic journey of self-discovery as he meets a wide variety of different incarnations of himself.

Disney's decision to release Loki on Wednesday as opposed to the Friday night slot (in which both WandaVision and The Falcon in the Winter Soldier aired) corresponded with Loki having the biggest premiere of any Disney+ series. Following that, Disney+ moved the release date of many of their shows to Wedensdays. While various publications had reported Loki being the most-watched MCU on Disney+, Disney had never released any official numbers to confirm this.

According to Deadline, during the Disney upfronts, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, along with premiering the first trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, confirmed that Loki was the biggest MCU Disney+ series. The Marvel boss credited Loki's success to a “bold swing” and a “wild ride paid off.” Feige did not give any official viewing numbers, or the margin by which the series was above the rest. However, Feige did confirm that filming on Loki season 2 is set to begin in the next few weeks.

Unlike the two MCU series proceeding it, Loki was not a mini-series but a regular series, with the after-credits scene letting audiences know Loki would return in season 2. Given Loki season 2 is now set to begin filming in June 2022, it is likely to receive a 2023 release date, but this has not been confirmed by Marvel. Michael Waldron, who wrote Loki season 1 and penned the script for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, recently revealed that Eric Martin would take over as head writer for season 2, which will also be directed by Moon Knight directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.

Loki's success stems from many factors. Being a fan-favorite character since his introduction in 2011's Thor and further cemented in 2012's The Avengers, the character has been a mainstay of the MCU for years, and audiences were excited to see an entire story focused on the God of Mischief. With Loki introducing Jonathan Majors as He Who Remains, a variant of Kang the Conqueror, Marvel Studios is likely hoping the massive audiences that tuned in for Loki will turn out for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which will feature the proper introduction of Kang the Conqueror. With Loki's success, it is almost certain that Hiddleston's character will be sticking around in the MCU a while longer.
