Loki director, Kate Herron, had her heart set on Owen Wilson portraying Mobius M. Mobius in the series, and now she's opening up on just how she convinced him to accept the role. The knowledge that Wilson was starring in the new Disney+ miniseries came as a surprise to many. An American actor, producer, and screenwriter, it is rare to spot Wilson in a television series, as he has stuck predominantly to film - particularly comedies, dramadies, and family features. He is most well-known for his roles in Zoolander, Cars, Wonder, Midnight in Paris, and Shanghai Knights.

Disney+ has expertly kept Wilson's Mobius mysterious enough to intrigue the fans, but they've been able to pull together a rough idea of the character. Wilson's introduction as Mobius in a previous Disney+ teaser emphasized his role in the Time Variance Authority (TVA) and his relationship with Loki. Mobius is an agent for the TVA, and seemingly keeps the organization from putting Loki to death. He recruits Loki to help him fix the timeline, and has an apparent interest in the God of Mischief that borders on sympathetic. Thus far, Wilson seems to mesh well with Tom Hiddleston onscreen, and his presence in the series is largely due to Herron's persistence.

As Loki's director, Herron took it upon herself to sway Wilson to join the cast as Mobius, and she revealed to THR how exactly she did it. It started off with a phone call - she called Wilson up and provided him with one of the most detailed pitches she's ever given to an actor. Herron knew that Wilson has never been particularly interested in or dazzled by the MCU, thus, she had to take extra caution in explaining the story in detail, to appeal to the writer in him. Check out her statement below:

I love his [Wilson's] work. 'Oh my God, I’m going to talk to Owen Wilson.' He’s so laid back and nice, it immediately puts you at ease. It was the most detailed pitch I’ve ever done, to an actor, ever. I think I pretty much spoke through the entire first episode with him. You can tell he’s a writer, just by the way he attacks story. His questions about the world and the structure and the arc of the character. It was really fun to work with him.

Herron's effort definitely aided in nabbing Wilson for the part. In addition to walking him through the first episode, she talked him through Loki's ten-year history in the MCU, MCU time travel, and the alternate timeline Loki. Her efforts paid off, and she won over Wilson for the role, despite his previous passiveness towards the MCU. She and Hiddleston took it upon themselves to educate Wilson on all things Marvel and Loki. Ironically, Herron herself is also a newcomer to the MCU, landing the gig after gaining traction as a director on the set of Sex Education. What really won her over to the MCU, though, was the pure passion and determination she displayed, the same characteristics that aided her in nabbing Wilson.

Herron's and Wilson's presence in Loki promises for a very different and unique feel to the series. Mobius is a unique character with interesting ties to She-Hulk and the Fantastic Four in the comic-books, but he is elusive and flexible enough to bend to Wilson's take on him. Meanwhile, Herron's intense knowledge and passion, and strong rapport with Wilson and Hiddleston bodes well for the series. Her decision to rope Wilson in was a good call as we have already seen some hints in the teasers that Loki and Mobius' relationship will be comical and touching. The version of Loki in the series is not the most well-liked, thus, it is interesting to see an individual taking a strong interest in him. If anyone can pierce through Loki's shell, it's the laidback and charming temperament of Wilson's Mobius.
