A new Loki episode 5 trailer reveals nine other potential Loki variants that will appear on the show. At the end of episode 4, "The Nexus Event," the 2012 Loki variant was pruned and seemingly killed. However, the post-credits scene showed Loki had been transported to a destroyed New York City, where he encountered four other versions of himself. In a shot that mirrored a scene from the original Avengers movie, audiences saw Old Loki, Kid Loki, Boastful Loki, and Crocodile Loki, as Old Loki told his 2012 counterpart to come with them.

The Loki episode 4 stinger was a massive moment and just one of the many twists present in "The Nexus Event." The revelation of there being a plethora of other Loki variants in the MCU set the stage for an exciting end to the season, and with only two episodes remaining, the variants will likely be a major factor in the story moving forward. While there's great interest in seeing more of the initial four variants, audiences are also wondering how many different Lokis there will be. Based on the latest trailer, there could be several.

Marvel released a new promo for Loki. The spot primarily deals with the amount of critical praise the show's received over its run, recycling previous footage. However, it does include a brief glimpse of a shot with the 2012 Loki posing with what could be nine other variants. Check it out below:

Because the shot is presented out-of-context without any dialogue, it isn't confirmed that these are indeed other Loki variants. However, that's a relatively safe assumption to make, given a few of them are wearing headpieces punctuated by horns, similar to Loki's traditional get-up. Interestingly, the 2012 Loki appears to be wearing the "President Loki" campaign button that was featured in some of the earliest marketing materials, indicating this storyline will be part of at least one of the two remaining episodes. Since Marvel is known for their secrecy, it's difficult to say how that plot will unfold, but based on this single shot, the 2012 Loki appears to have rallied other variants to his cause. It'll be fascinating to watch how it all plays out.

Introducing a multitude of other Loki variants this late in the show's run represents something of a risk. Loki still has a lot on its plate with only two episodes to go, including wrapping up Loki and Sylvie's ongoing arc and resolving Mobius' fate. The trick is to find the proper balance so the Loki variants stand out as fun additions to the series without undermining the established elements viewers are invested in. Of course, Loki season 2 is reportedly in the works, so perhaps these variants will lay the foundation for the show's future. So far, Loki has emerged as another winner for Marvel in Phase 4, so hopefully it delivers a rousing conclusion.
