Loki episode 4 writer Eric Martin reveals Marvel had some concerns about the installment's dramatic Time-Keepers reveal. Next on the release schedule is the Disney+ series' penultimate episode, but many viewers are still reeling from last week's developments. "The Nexus Event" took Loki in some surprising directions, culminating in Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief being pruned by Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw). An mid-credits scene revealed him to be in some kind of alternate universe populated by other Loki Variants, including Richard E. Grant's finally-revealed mystery character.

Though those aforementioned moments inspired a lot of conversation, they weren't the only major things to happen within Loki episode 4. The installment also revealed something many had long suspected: That the imperious Time-Keepers in charge of the TVA are fakes. In a moment very much like The Wizard of Oz, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) beheads one of the Time-Keepers, only to discover it is an animatronic. Exactly who is the mind behind the TVA remains to be seen, but as the end of the Loki episode hints, answers should be coming soon.

Last week, Martin, the writer behind Loki episode 4, live-tweeted along with the episode and revealed some fun tidbits about the behind the scenes process. On the subject of the Time-Keepers reveal, Martin explained the powers that be at Marvel "definitely had some concerns that we were moving too quickly by taking the Timekeepers off the board." However, in another post, Martin acknowledged they "saw where we were going and trusted us." What resulted was all the crazy developments in "The Nexus Event."

Considering there are only two episodes left in Loki's run, it's surprising to hear Marvel thought revealing the truth about the Time-Keepers in episode 4 was too soon. There's still so much ground to cover in the series, from the story behind all the Loki Variants to the true origins of the TVA. If anything, it seems smarter to have the Time-Keepers reveal fall where it did; that way, the ramifications can be felt to their fullest extent. Plus, some fans felt that Loki episode 3 was slower, so featuring major twists in the following installment almost made up for that.

As many have noted online, Loki followed in the footsteps so far set by the previous Marvel Disney+ shows by dropping game-changing twists midway through their runs. WandaVision had the arrival of fake Pietro (Evan Peters), while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw John Walker (Wyatt Russell) kill someone in broad daylight. Loki's final episodes have the potential to feature even bigger developments, even ones that could impact the broader MCU. In other words, all viewers better buckle in.
