The next Marvel TV series to be released on Disney+ is Loki, which will reunite viewers with the God of Mischief, but will his famous Avenger brother, Thor, make an appearance on the show? The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues its expansion with its highly-anticipated Phase 4, which will not only cover movies but also TV shows that will connect with the movies, contrary to what happened with Netflix’s Marvel shows. Kicking off Phase 4 was WandaVision, followed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and the next project will bring back a fan-favorite character that saw his demise in Avengers: Infinity War: Loki.

The God of Mischief made his debut in 2011 in Thor and then became the villain in The Avengers, but by the time the events of Infinity War happened, he was already on his road to redemption. Avengers: Endgame saw the surviving heroes traveling through time to get the Infinity Stones before Thanos did, and in the process, they made way for new timelines, including one where 2012 Loki escaped with the Tesseract. This is what allows him to return with his own TV series, simply titled Loki, which will see him being brought to the Time Variance Authority (TVA), an organization that monitors the timeline. The TVA will take advantage of Loki’s abilities and send him on different missions to fix the timeline, and with this, Loki will avoid being deleted.

In typical Marvel fashion, most plot details about Loki haven't been revealed, but the trailers have shown many bits of his travels across time and space, along with footage from previous Marvel movies and Loki repeating some of his most famous quotes. All this has raised the question of whether Thor will make an appearance in the show or not, and unlike the appearances of Quicksilver in WandaVision and Steve Rogers in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, this one seems a lot more likely, and Loki himself has given some hints at his brother’s involvement. In the very first trailer for Loki, towards the end, Loki says “brother, when I’m down, you better be ready”, and as he jumped off a plane, he was caught in what appears to be the Bifrost.

Now, as this is a different Loki from the one in the main timeline, who died in Infinity War, and his escape created a new timeline branch, it’s entirely possible that this also made way for a Thor variant, one whose life is different from the one viewers are familiar with. This would be a Thor that didn’t see Loki “die” and take their father’s place, nor did he see him die for real at the hands of Thanos, and knowing the God of Thunder, he surely wouldn’t rest until he knew what happened to his brother after his disappearance. Another possibility could be a past version of Thor appearing in Loki, similar to the past versions of the Avengers who showed up in Avengers: Endgame during the time heist. The trailers for Loki have shown different places and events from previous MCU movies, including one of Loki on the throne of Asgard, so a pre-2012 version of Thor could make an appearance during one of those trips.

The aforementioned scene of Loki being caught mid-air by the Bifrost could be how the God of Mischief rejoins his brother in Thor: Love and Thunder or how this Loki variant meets that of his brother, setting up another season of the show and Loki’s future appearances in Phase 4, though all this is a lot easier said than done. Of course, there’s the possibility of Thor not appearing at all, similar to what happened with Quicksilver and Steve Rogers, so fans of Thor shouldn’t keep their hopes high and enjoy the ride of Loki’s new adventures through time and space.
