Marvel artist Charlie Wen reveals an over-the-top costume design for Tom Hiddleston's Loki for 2011's Thor. One of the most beloved characters in the MCU, Odin's adopted son was more of a wildcard than a straight-up villain. For years, he upstaged Chris Hemsworth's Thor thanks to his interesting personality and penchant for mischief. But as it turns out, Loki's first outing on the big screen could've looked really different from what fans saw in the Kenneth Branagh-directed Marvel movie.

Wen was originally tapped to work on The Avengers, but was also asked to help in designing Thor and Asgard for the character's origin film. Recently, he released a slew of concept artwork for the God of Thunder's hammer giving fans an idea on how rigorous the process was in deciding Mjölnir's look, which would be Thor's main choice of weapon for several years until it was destroyed in Taika Waititi's  Thor: Ragnarok and replaced by the Stormbreaker in Avengers: Infinity War. Now, Wen unveils a never-before-seen concept art for Loki's costume which is grander than the ones Hiddleston sported on screen.

Taking it to his official Facebook account (h/t Comicbook), Wen posted an illustration of what could've been one of Loki's robes in Thor. Keeping in mind that "Asgard had magic based on science beyond human tech understanding," the artist wanted to highlight the God of Mischief's manipulative nature while working on the design. While Wen said in the caption that there were a few other options, he said that this was the "looniest one" from the bunch. Check it out below:

This particular costume design is definitely more ludicrous than anything fans saw the character wear over the years of his existence on the big screen. Although the green motif carried over in all of his items of clothing. This one gives off a creepy vibe which could've made it difficult to sell the idea that he's not really a bad guy, he's just misunderstood.  That said, it would have been interesting to see him sport this over-the-top outfit at the start of his MCU journey, and gradually opt for more streamlined suits as he slowly began to come to terms with his true identity, to the point that he was willing to sacrifice his own life for his brother. It would've been a good visual representation of his personal story arc in the franchise.

One of the early casualties of Avengers: Infinity War, Loki is led to believed to be dead, although numerous theories are going around about the possibility that he may have faked his death, again. Whether or not he's really gone, fans are set to see Hiddeston reprise his iconic Marvel character on the big screen (possibly for the last time) in next year's Avengers 4. Previously leaked set photos have revealed that Tony Stark is set to revisit the Battle of New York which Loki was a huge part of.
