Ever since Logan was announced, fans of Wolverine have been waiting to see what exactly Fox and director James Mangold have in store for Hugh Jackman's last ride. This will be the third Wolverine movie, and the bar to go out as the best solo film yet is pretty high right now. Following complaints over the third act for The Wolverine, Mangold appears to have scaled things back even further to dive deep into Logan's mindset after being a hero for all these years, with his new film.
Loan will not be alone in this last adventure however, as his long time pal Professor X (Patrick Stewart) will be joining him, along with a few new faces. The one new face that has fans of the comics most excited is that of the young mutant known as X-23. For those that aren't aware of her origin, a new viral clip for the film lays the foundation.
20th Century Fox (via YouTube) has released a new viral clip for Logan that turns the focus to the younger adamantium claw wielding mutant in this movie. The clip shows the surgery Laura Kinney (Dafne Keen) undergoes to be turned into a human weapon. After doctors spend time operating on her to give her abilities, she is then forced to be locked away and uses her new claws to cut herself and witness her healing powers.
It is difficult to tell from the video whether or not Dr. Zander Rice (Richard E. Grant) is involved in X-23's operation. If this clip or something made with a more cinematic feel is featured in the movie, he very well could be incorporated into this scene - even if he isn't in it at the moment.
With Logan set to have a heavy focus on the titular character, it will be interesting to see how much of the movie's run time is used to flesh out X-23's backstory as well. Any reveals would likely come via flashbacks as the trailers have already established Laura and Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook) to share a past encounter. With Laura appearing to spend most of the time during the film with Logan specifically, it would not be surprising to have the two discuss their origins - especially if Laura was created using Wolverine's DNA like the comics.
Outside of showing off a glimpse at her origin, this short clip continues to show just how violent Logan will be as the clip is filled with blood. Both Logan and X-23 will both have a fair amount of opportunities to draw blood on their opponents, both separate and together.
