Back in the early 2000s, kids and teenagers watched Lizzie McGuire (2001-2004) on Disney channel. This comedy drama follows the titular middle schooler who expresses her thoughts and feelings through an animated character.

The show was nominated twice for the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2003 and 2004 for Outstanding Children’s Program. It has won seven awards, including Kids’ Choice Awards in the USA for Favorite Television Show in 2002 and 2003. The show also won the Kids’ Choice Awards in Australia for Favorite Television Star in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

The show was well-loved because it dealt with relatable issues in funny ways and used characters people cared about. It became so popular there was even The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003), in which Lizzie graduates from middle school and takes a class trip to Rome, Italy. Lizzie finds out she’s a dead ringer for Isabella, a famous teen pop idol, and she takes her place after Isabella and her partner Paolo… who Lizzie finds herself falling for.

But what happened to the cast of Lizzie McGuire? Which actors rocketed to stardom and which fell into obscurity? Some of these TV actors made the big screen, continued successfully (and some not so successfully) on the small screen, and a few even had careers in singing.

15. Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff in Lizzie McGuire and Younger

The biggest name to come out of Lizzie McGuire was Lizzie McGuire herself. Hilary Duff used her Disney role to help promote her singing career. She has released five studio albums so far. Some of her more popular songs include “Come Clean” (2004), which hit #35 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Stranger" (2007), which hit #97 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her album Metamorphosis ended up going triple-platinum.

After Lizzie McGuire, Duff went on to star in a Disney movie A Cinderella Story (2004), a romantic comedy based on the classic. She was well-known for her work on the Cheaper by the Dozen films. She got her own clothing line and has supported numerous charities by donating both her money and her time.

Most recently, Duff plays a supporting role on Younger (2015-), a romantic comedy about Liza Miller, a women who tries to improve the romance in her life and her career when she’s mistaken for a 26-year-old. Duff plays Kelsey Peters, Liza’s co-worker and friend. Duff is now a household name and she can still do a lot with her career.

14. Hallie Todd

Hallie Todd in Lizzie McGuire and Lea to the Rescue

Hallie Todd played Lizzie McGuire’s mother Jo. She was listed as one of the Ten Best TV Moms of All Time by CNN Entertainment in 2010. Before Lizzie McGuire, she appeared on the Showtime comedy series Brothers (1984-1989) and was nominated for two Cable ACE awards.

The year after Lizzie McGuire, Todd voice-acted in one episode of comedic animation Brandy & Mr. Whiskers (2004-2006), also by Disney. She took a break from acting after that until appearing in the horror movie The Mooring (2012), which was about a group of teenage girls going away to sleepaway camp (and since it’s a horror movie, the girls unfortunately don’t just sit around braiding each other’s hair). She then appeared in the American Girl film Lea to the Rescue (2016) and the short drama Hello My Friend (2017).

Todd will be appearing in the sports family drama movie The Last Champion (2017), which is currently in post-production. The film is about ex-Olympian John Wright who returns in disgrace to his hometown after his mother dies.

13. Robert Carradine

Robert Carradine in Lizzie Mcguire and Sharktopus vs Pteracuda

Robert Carradine was well known before his role on Lizzie McGuire, though the show did introduce him to a new audience. He played Lizzie’s father, Sam McGuire. His first role was in an episode of Bonanza (1959-1973) and he would go on to numerous TV shows and movies. However, he is well-known for his role as Lewis “Lew” Skolnick in the Revenge of the Nerds movies.

After Lizzie McGuire, Carradine occasionally appeared in episodes of TV shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2001-2011), Robot Chicken (2001-), and Doubt (2017). Some of his movie roles included a doctor in the zombie movie The Terror Experiment (2010), a tracker in the western drama Django Unchained (2012), and another doctor in the TV movie Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda (2014).

Currently, Carradine will be in the horror movie Solitary Confinement (2017), which will be premiering on October 1. It’s about a reality TV show on which contestants see who can stay in solitary confinement the longest and win one million dollars, while the Internet watches live!

12. Jake Thomas

Jake Thomas in Lizzie McGuire and Corey in the House

Jake Thomas played Lizzie’s brother Matt McGuire. Jake was on the Knoxville Evening News the day he was born because of his mother’s TV show and his father’s radio show. He would go on to be in TV commercials with his parents as he grew up. At the beginning of his career, he was in several TV shows, including 3rd Rock from the Sun (1996-2001) and Touched by An Angel (1994-2003).

Since Lizzie McGuire ended, Thomas has mostly been in television shows and TV movies. He voiced Nigel Planter, a dorky wizard in The Grimm Adventures of Billy & Mandy (2001-2007). After that he played Jason Stickler in the Disney show Cory in the House (2007-2008), a spin-off from That’s So Raven (2003-2007). Recently he appeared in a few movies, including the comedy What Happened Last Night (2016) and the thriller The Unwilling (2017).

Jake Thomas will be starring in Baja (2018), which is currently in post-production. This comedy follows four 22-year-olds who go on a road trip to Mexico. It seems their trip is going to be a disaster until some miraculous events turn it around.

11. Ashlie Brillault

Ashlie Brillault in The Lizzie McGuire Movie

Ashlie Brillault played Kate Sanders on Lizzie McGuire. Kate used to be Lizzie and Miranda’s best-friend until she became popular and turned into their worst enemy.

Besides being on an episode of One on One (2001-2006), Brillault did not do any more acting after Lizzie McGuire. Instead, she chose to quit acting after the Lizzie McGuire movie and went with quite a different career path.

Brillault got her degree in Political Science from California State University. She became a Criminal Defense Attorney at The Law Offices of David Givot & The Law Offices of David Borsari in Long Beach. Brillault also helped with several organizations, such as the Long Beach Child Cancer Center and DARE organization, and she is a board member for Kids with a Cause.

10. Clayton Snyder

Clayton Snyder in Lizzie McGuire and New Dogs Old Tricks

Clayton Snyder played Ethan Craft, the boy everyone (including Lizzie) had a crush on. Lizzie McGuire was his first acting role. Afterwards, he did not return to acting until in Life Is Not a Musical: The Musical (2010). He took another break, but has been acting regularly in mostly television shows since 2014.

Some of the TV shows he’s appeared in include an episode of NCIS (2003-) and a regular role on the mini-series Edgar Allan Poe's Murder Mystery Dinner Party (2016-), where he played Crime and Punishment writer Fyodor Dostoevsky. He later reunited with the actor who played Lizzie’s brother, Jake Thomas, in the comedy What Happened Last Night (2016).

The main reason for these breaks in his acting career probably involved Clayton’s sports career. He played water polo for the USA Men’s National Team, the Olympic Club and for the Italian team Promogest Quartu. So that probably kept him a little busy.

Currently, Snyder is working on several projects. He will be appearing in the comedy New Dogs, Old Tricks in 2017. Synder will also be in two upcoming movies, the drama Live to Tell (2017) and the comedy drama Instructions for Living (2017).

9. Kyle Downes

Kyle Downes in Lizzie McGuire and The Exorcism Diaries

Kyle Downes played the stereotypical nerdy kid at Lizzie McGuire’s school, Lawrence “Larry” Tudgeman. He had numerous roles before Lizzie McGuire, including a leading role on Higher Ground (2000). Downes also appeared on shows like Goosebumps (1995-1998) and Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1990-2000).

Downes acted less after he left Lizzie McGuire. He appeared in a few TV shows in 2005, including CSI: Miami (2002-2012) and The L Word (2004-2009). After that, he only appeared in two shots, Dice (2010) and The Exorcism Diaries (2014).

His latest (and uncredited) role is in the thriller Proxy Kill (2017), which he is also writing and directing. This is because Downes fell in love with the world behind the camera, preferring to write, produce and direct projects behind the camera rather than act in front of one. Some of his writing/producing/directing credits include 10/10 (2011) and the short Ladies Night Singles (2013).

8. Christian Copelin

Christian Copelin in Lizzie McGuire

Despite being in over 20 episodes of Lizzie McGuire, Christian Copelin never spoke a single word. He played the silent Lanny Onasis, Matt’s best friend who only used body language to communicate. Jokingly, he created a twitter called @yesicantalk, though he has not “spoken” using it since 2010.

Before Lizzie McGuire, Copelin appeared briefly on TV shows like Pensacola: Wings of Golds (1997-2000) and ER (1994-2009). The year after Lizzie McGuire ended, Copelin only appeared in two more projects before his acting career ended. He appeared in an episode of The Bernie Mac Show (2001-2006) and played Kenny in the romantic comedy The Seat Filler (2004).

Copelin does not have any film credits to his name since 2004. He created the Youtube channel locotoons2008 and made a webseries called “Tux.” The cartoon series starred a talking dog created and voiced by Copelin himself. He did the writing himself. Only one episode came out in 2008 and a few clips have surfaced, but the actor has not really done anything else.

7. Davida Williams

Davida Williams in Lizzie McGuire and Stuck in the Middle

Davida Williams played Claire Miller, a member of the cheerleading squad and a mean girl. After the show, Williams appeared in some TV shows and movies, but her longest recurring role wasn’t until the drama romance TV series As the World Turns (1956-2010), in which she played Jade Taylor from 2008-2009. She had minor roles after that in films like Barrio Tales 2 (2010) and an episode of 90210 (2008-2013).

More recently, she appeared in TV shows such as Foursome (2016-) and Stuck in the Middle (2016-). Her latest role was a few recent episodes on Casual (2015-).

6. Yani Gellman

Yani Gellman in The Lizzie McGuire Movie and Pretty Little Liars

His previous roles include a part in a two-parter of Goosebumps and a part in the horror movie Jason X (2001). Right after the movie, he became a regular on the shows Wild Card (2003-2005) and Monster Warriors (2006-2007). Gellman is also well-known for his recurring role as Garrett Reynolds on Pretty Little Liars (2010-2017). He also played Diego Flores in the remake of 90210 (2008-2013).

5. Carly Schroeder

Carly Schroeder in Lizzie McGuire and Forget Me Not

Before her role in Lizzie McGuire, she appeared in a few TV shows and TV movies, including Port Charles (1997-2003). This was a spin-off of General Hospital (1963-) and she appeared in hundreds of episodes, even getting nominated for several awards.

Schroeder won a “Best Child Actor” award for Eye of the Dolphin (2006) at the International Family Film Festival. She also won a “Best Actress, Dramatic Feature” for Prep School at the Studio City Film Festival in the US. She would go on to guest-star in shows like Ghost Whisperer (2005-2010) and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999-). She also starred in Gracie, a film based on the real-life tragedy about the childhood of actors Elisabeth Shue and Andrew Shue.

Schroder also landed movie roles in Forget Me Not (2009) and One of Us (2012). Most recently, she appeared in General Hospital (1963-).

Besides acting, Schroeder is an animal rights activist, environmentalist, and nutritional advocate.

4. Phillip David Lewis

Mr Moseby with Zack and Cody in The Suite Life on Deck

Phillip David Lewis played Principal Tweedy in three episodes of Lizzie McGuire. His role in the show is often forgotten in the light of him becoming a regular character on the Disney show The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (2005). He played Mr. Moseby, the manager of the hotel. His character would appear in other Disney shows like Wizards of Waverly Place (2007-2012) and Hannah Montana (2006-2011), before returning as his character on the Suite Life spin-off The Suite Life on Deck (2008-2011).

After his roles on these shows, Lewis appeared in a few episodes of Scrubs (2001-2010). He also voiced DJay in the animated comedy Total Drama (2007-). Some of his other voice work includes his sporadic appearance on American Dad! (2005-) as Duper, an agent at the CIA.

3. Haylie Duff

Haylie Duff in Lizzie McGuire and 7th Heaven

Haylie Duff is Hilary Duff’s sister and played Lizzie’s cousin Amy in three episodes of Lizzie McGuire. She was also uncredited as the singing voice for Isabella Parigi in The Lizzie McGuire movie.

She would go on to appear in films such as Napoleon Dynamite (2004), playing Summer Wheatly, for which she won a Teen Choice Award in 2005 for Choice Movie Breakout Performance - Female. This is (obviously) considered her breakout role and she would go on to appear in a lot of movies and television shows. One of her notable roles was as Sandy Jameson in 7th Heaven (1996-2007).

Three films she will be in are currently in post-production and will be out this year, including The Lease, The Bachelor Next Door, and Hacker.

Like her sister, Haylie is also a singer as well as a songwriter. She even wrote some of Hilary Duff’s songs, such as “Sweet Sixteen” and “Gypsy Woman.” The Duff sisters would sing duets together, like the song “Our Lips Are Sealed” on the A Cinderella Story soundtrack. But Haylie has definitely become a separate celebrity from her sister.

2. Lalaine Vergara Paras

Lalaine Vergara Paras in Lizzie McGuire and Gossip Girl

Lalaine Vergara Paras (who often goes by just Lalaine) played Lizzie McGuire’s best-friend Miranda Sanchez. She had previously appeared on a couple of TV series, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003).

At the end of Lizzie McGuire, Lalaine went on to work on the drama Promised Land (2004), which is about a group of Estonian girls smuggled into Israel to be prostitutes. A bit of a departure from her Lizzie McGuire role.

Lalaine appeared in several other movies and TV shows, including a brief appearance in Easy A (2010) as a “Gossipy Girl.” Later, Lalaine became active on Youtube, and she played several characters on the Youtube series Off the Clock.

In 2010, Lalaine became part of the all-girl indie/alternative rock band Vanity Theft that started back in 2005. She replaced their bass player Lindsey Keene but was asked to leave in early 2011 before the band started touring.

She will be appearing in a minor role in the drama thriller One Night Alone.

1. Adam Lamberg

Adam Lamberg in Lizzie McGuire and Beautiful Loser

The last member of Lizzie McGuire’s tight-knit crew, Adam Lamberg played Lizzie’s best friend Gordo. He started acting when he was seven years old and got a part in an American Express commercial. A year after Lizzie McGuire ended, Lamberg played a minor role in the R-rated comedy When Do We Eat? (2005).

His last listed movie was in Beautiful Loser (2008), a comedy drama he starred in as Reggie (the teenager). He decides at 11 to do nothing with his life, until he falls in love. And it’s a love that lasts decades, despite the girl of his dreams not loving him back.

Beautiful Loser came out the same year Lamberg graduated from UC Berkley with a Bachelor’s degree in Geography. He went on to Baruch College and earned his Master of Public Administration in 2014. Today, Lamberg stays out of the spotlight and works as a developmental associate at the Irish Arts Center in New York City.
