For over 20 years, children (and adults) around the world have lost themselves in the red and white world of Martin Handford's Where's Waldo? books. Now,thanks to the efforts of Universal and Illumination Entertainment, the adventures of the bespectacled world traveler will be adapted to the big screen for a live-action family film.
According to reports, Universal claimed the rights to 'Waldo' after Paramount placed the project in turnaround. Warner Brothers was also in the running to acquire the project.
Since the Where's Waldo? book series launched in 1987, the books have sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. But will book sales translate into ticket sales? Given that the books were nothing more than a game of hide-and-seek, it will be interesting to see what kind of plot emerges for this film. On the other hand, it will likely be a kid's movie, so the plot probably doesn't matter all that much (see Beverly Hills Chihuahua - or rather, don't).
What do you think of a live-action Where's Waldo? film? Who would be a good choice to play Waldo? Any chance we'll see an appearance from Waldo's bizarro self, the evil Odlaw?
