For over 60 years The Flash has raced his way through DC comics and into our hearts with his amazing powers, comedic antics, and his indistinguishable suit that makes him stand out.

With his current run on the CW show and his upcoming movie, we've seen the suit reimagined like never before. However, there are a lot of suits that came before that brought The Flash to life in live-action. Here are The Flash's live-action suits, ranked.

Legend Of The Superheroes (Rod Haase)

The first on this list is Barry Allen/The Flash's first live-action appearance byways of 1979 special, Legend of the Superheroes. The Flash only played a minor role in the movie, sharing screen time with many of DC's most coveted heroes like  Batman, Hawkman, and Shazam.

The Flash may have been overshadowed by Adam West and Burt Ward reprising their roles as Batman and Robin respectively but we can't ignore the job Rod Haase did as the scarlet speedster. Although it looked a little goofy, we still have to commend Haase for pulling it off.

Justice League Of America (Kenny Johnston)

Justice League of America 1997

This next iteration of The Flash comes almost 20 years later in the canceled CBS movie Justice League of America.  Unlike Rod Haas, this team behind this movie had a lot more time to perfect the Flash suit and make it a little less ridiculous looking. Unfortunately, they failed to do that as the costume looks uncomfortable and the cowl looks foamy and unrealistic.

Kenny Johnston takes on Barry Allen and he couldn't be further away from the character, playing a ditzy and unemployed version of The Flash. It's no wonder he didn't make an appearance in the crossover.

Smallville (Kyle Gallner)

Bart Allen agrees to join the justice league in Smallville

Kyle Gallner runs into the small screen as the Flash or Impulse as he's called on SmallvilleWhen introduced he's a troublemaking youngster who uses his powers to steal and go unnoticed. This caused a run-in with a young Clark Kent who quickly found out he didn't stand a chance against the gifted speedster.

Although he wasn't meant to be the scarlet speedster we all know and love, he makes his way on the list because he did a costume and he did make some heroic moves on his way to helping Clark fight crime.

The suit was nowhere near impressive, simply being a red hoodie with yellow outlines, which isn't much of a costume, or at least not one that's distinguishable as the Flash.

The Flash Season 5 (Grant Gustin)

The first of the questionable costume designs on the CW Flash comes in the 5th season. Arguably the worst of the five costumes, this had some questionable designs that had the fans causing an uproar, including the decision to remove the chin strap from the cowl.

Grant Gustin is currently the longest-tenured Flash and arguably the best to portray him but this costume did him no justice at all.

The Flash 1990 (John Wesley Shipp)

John Wesley Shipp in The Flash CBS

John Wesley Shipp has reprised his role as The Flash and has played the Flash from the golden age, but he was wearing the red tights and lightning bolt long before he made appearances in the crossovers.

in the 1990s, he played the titular character and although the show only lasted one season it was the best iteration of the suit before the Grant Gustin/Ezra Miller era.

The crimson red and the solid gold highlights very closely resemble the suit the Flash has in his animated appearances.

The Flash  Season 1 (Grant Gustin)

The Flash season 5.1 Barry Allen

As the longest-tenured Flash on the List, Gustin's gonna make his way on here more than just a couple of times. This next suit debuted in 2013, the pilot season of the show.

Although it wasn't exactly like the suit in the show, it did show a lot of promise and you add that with Gustin's near-perfect performance as Barry Allen, it's safe to say this was on the fan's favorite suits to date.

The Flash Season 2 (Grant Gustin)

The next suit is almost identical to his season 1 suit except for one minor difference that's addressed in the season 2 premiere and that's the emblem. Tha being said, there wasn't much of a change which means the fans still got to see The Flash running through Central City and saving people with a well-known suit.

Many fans even today wish the show would go back to his season 2 suit as it stands as one of the most realistic and well-made suits to date.

Justice League (Ezra Miller)

Ezra Miller as The Flash in Justice League

With a big movie budget and the acting chops of Ezra Miller, it's only a given he would make his way to the top 3 as one of the greatest live-action costumes to date. This next costume veers away from using the spandex or leather other costumes have used and combine CGI with a sort of artificial metal to create a realistic and very well made costume.

As the fastest man alive it's important to be as comfortable as possible while also having a costume that's practical for your abilities.

The Flash Season 3/4 (Grant Gustin)

The next costume on the Gustin Flash is the suit we got in the 4th season premiere when he makes his way back from the speed force. This costume addressed all the fan complaints about the costume looking nothing like the comics and they added the yellow highlights and changed the red to a lighter color.

They even slightly changed the helmet to look less like a bobblehead and more like a cowl that Gustin can move around freely without being too restricted.

The Flash Season 6 (Grant Gustin)

The last and arguably the best costume to date comes in the latest season of The Flash. They finally got it down perfect, after six years of trying different costumes they perfected the suit by making it as close to the comics as possible without compromising the quality of the suit.

They stopped using so much leather and they stuck to a material that allows the actor to move freely and do more while in the suit. They added the chinstrap back after a request from the fans and they changed the lightning bolts on the side of his head to match the comics. All the costume needs are yellow boots but we can live without that change.
