Marvel Studios has had an impeccable run since they founded the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008. They've launched countless franchises worthy of sequels, but the often forgotten addition to the lore was The Incredible Hulk. Much of this is thanks to actor Mark Ruffalo replacing Edward Norton as the hero, Bruce Banner, but the universe has slowly started to tie even this film into the larger world. The most recent example of this was the surprising return of William Hurt as General Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Civil War. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a peep about the return of Liv Tyler's Betty Ross (the General's daughter and Banner's love interest) since she first appeared.
If there had to be a film where Betty was most likely to make a comeback, it would most likely be Avengers: Infinity War. The Marvel films are only becoming more and more connected, and the Avengers threequel is expected to be the biggest of them all, joining characters from all of the disparate corners of the MCU. Now a new report is suggesting that Betty Ross may, in fact, be among them.
Daily Record UK (via MCUExchange) wrote an article about the impact that filming of Infinity War would have on the Scottish economy, and when they went to list some of the cast members, Liv Tyler was included. Considering she has not previously been linked as returning, this is surprising news should it be true. Daily Record does not definitely report that they know she is returning but include her addition as if it had been reported before.
Should this report turn out to be true, confirmation on this could appear in the coming months as filming begins. That said, this report is hardly confirmation and reads more like speculation than actual reporting. Then again, everyone from Kevin Feige to the Russo brothers have made the point that Infinity War will be a culmination of the MCU to this point, and the inclusion of Tyler would go a long way in bringing The Incredible Hulk back to relevance.
From a character perspective, it is difficult to figure out how Betty Ross would become involved with the plot of the film. Banner has moved on from Ross by all accounts and has since dabbled in a romantic relationship with Black Widow instead. There is the possibility that writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have found a different role for her to play, but it is so far impossible to theorize what that could be with so little details from the plot coming out.
