Little Women, written by Louisa May Alcott in the 1800s, has received countless film and TV show retellings over the years. Despite this, director Greta Gerwig decided to bring the story to new audiences yet again in 2019.
While there were many parts of the freshened story that stood out to both long-time fans and new viewers, one aspect of the film was indisputably great: the cast.
Sure, there were definitely some actors who gave stronger performances than others. Nonetheless, we’re here to look at them all and see what other films you can find them in.
Rather than directing you to any movie in which one of the stars has been featured, we’ll be paying the most attention to recent films in which the actors are front-and-center.
With that said, it’s time to take a look at Little Women’s stellar cast and uncover the other films you can find them in.
Saoirse Ronan: Lady Bird
Ronan stars as the fiery, determined, leading lady of Little Women: Jo. If you enjoyed Ronan’s convincing performance in this film, you’ll love her just as much in Lady Bird.
This 2017 coming-of-age drama, which was also directed by Greta Gerwig, tells of a Sacramento teenager who feels confined by the limitations of her Catholic high school life. Her dream is to leave her sleepy town and head to a city full of culture like New York, but her mother believes that she doesn’t see the value in what she has.
While Ronan is at the front of Lady Bird, Timothée Chalamet, who plays Laure in Little Women, also shows up as a love interest. Additionally, Tracy Letts, who plays Mr. Dashwood, also makes an appearance.
Timothée Chalamet: Beautiful Boy
Let’s direct our attention back to Timothée Chalamet, shall we?
Not long before Chalamet was playing the charming Theodore Lawrence, he was taking on a serious role in the 2018 biographical drama Beautiful Boy. With Steve Carell co-starring as the dad of Chalamet’s Nic, the film had a lot going for it.
Beautiful Boy tells of a teenager who seems to have a successful life — that is, until drug addiction threatens to tear it down. Nic’s father attempts to figure out how to connect with his son and bring him to sobriety.
Florence Pugh: Midsommar
If you loved the new energy-filled (yet matured) version of Amy, portrayed by the one and only Florence Pugh, you might also enjoy the creepy folk horror film known as Midsommar. Sure, it's definitely not as sweet and lighthearted as Little Women. However, Pugh still manages to steal the show.
The 2019 film tells of a group that heads to Sweden for a special festival that takes place once in a lifetime. Though the friends are excited, they soon find themselves attempting to escape the tight hold of a pagan cult.
Emma Watson: Beauty And The Beast
British actress Emma Watson takes on the role of the oldest March sister, Meg, in Little Women. While we could tell you to just watch the Harry Potter series again (where she stars as Hermione), we think she gets an even bigger spotlight in the live-action Beauty and the Beast. Plus, in it, she gets to wear a fancy dress that's even more magical than the one Meg falls in love with.
The Disney fairytale recounts the story of a cruel prince who is turned into a beast due to his unkind actions. However, if he learns to love someone else and be loved in return, the curse will be broken. After the adventurous Belle (Watson) volunteers herself as the beast's prisoner in place of her father, a chance at true love might just become a reality.
Eliza Scanlen: The Devil All The Time
The most tragic March sister, Beth, is played by Eliza Scanlen. Being that the actress is relatively new to Hollywood, we're here to direct you toward one of her upcoming films rather than one she appeared in during the past.
This Netflix original, The Devil All the Time, follows the lives of various people in Ohio who deal with the psychological effects of life after World War II. The characters include a husband-and-wife serial killing team, a fake preacher, and a struggling war veteran.
With a cast list boasting Tom Hollan, Sebastian Stan, and Robert Pattinson in addition to Scanlen, our hopes are high.
Laura Dern: Marriage Story
Dern plays the mother of the March sisters with warmth and grace. If you'd rather see her more fiery side, your best bet is to turn to the Oscar-nominated Netflix drama, Marriage Story.
The 2019 film tells of a couple that works their way through the messy ups and downs of divorce. As if splitting up wasn't complicated enough, one of the two lives in New York while the other has recently transferred back to her home state of California.
While Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver star as couple Nicole and Charlie, Dern is close behind by acting as Nicole's divorce lawyer.
Meryl Streep
Yes, Meryl Streep, who portrays Aunt March in Little Women, has been in an insane amount of feature films. That being said, not every one of them features as many of her Little Women co-stars as The Post.
The Post recounts the true story of America’s first female major news publisher and the executive editor of The Washington Post on their mission to publish the Pentagon Papers. Though these classified documents will reveal the truth behind the U.S.’s involvement in the Vietnam War, they will also threaten the publishers’ lives in more ways than one.
Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks are front-and-center. Meanwhile, the March Sisters’ dad, Bob Odenkirk, plays an assistant editor and Tracy Letts (who played the aforementioned Mr. Dashwood in Little Women) appears as a Post chairman.
James Norton: Mr. Jones
In Little Women, English actor James Norton portrays the tutor that Meg falls for. Though he's charming, he definitely doesn't get as much screentime as some of the other characters. Thankfully, you can see Norton at the top of the cast list as the titular character in the 2019 drama Mr. Jones.
Set in 1933, the film tells of a journalist who gets popular for interviewing Adolf Hitler. Though he hopes to travel to the Soviet Union in order to talk to Stalin, he soon discovers the horrors of the Holodomor famine in Ukraine.
Louis Garrel: A Faithful Man
If you can speak French (or like to rock subtitles) you might also like A Faithful Man. This film is directed, written by, and starring Louis Garrel, who portrays the professor that Jo becomes enchanted by.
The story tells of a woman, Marianne, who leaves a man, Abel, for his best friend. Though Marianne and the friend stay together, she decides to return to Abel after her partner's death eight years later. Their revived relationship is not smooth sailing.
Bob Odenkirk: Nobody
Lastly, we're shouting it out to Bob Odenkirk who, as aforementioned, plays the March sisters' father. Like Eliza Scanlen, we're anticipating Odenkirk's next big box office hit.
Odenkirk is starring as average suburban Nobody dad Hutch Mansell, who is forced into uncovering a long string of secrets after two thieves break into his house.
In addition to starring in the thriller, Odenkirk is acting as a producer. Universal is set to release the film on Aug. 14 of this year.
