Altitude Films debuted Little Monster’s trailer. Early on, a military-themed sequence establishes the context, with soldiers identifying the enemies as “slow” zombies, a moment of dry humor that sets the narrative tone. The trailer then transitions to Miss Caroline’s class trip to Pleasant Valley. To match her demeanor, Miss Caroline wears a bright yellow dress, while Teddy McGiggle sports a spotted green suit. The crew has a “super fun time,” at least until Miss Caroline discovers a zombie going to town on the local wildlife. And so Nyong'o’s character tries her best to maintain a peppy demeanor, solely to prevent the children from freaking out. Unfortunately, Teddy McGiggle doesn’t offer much help, which means that Miss Caroline must devise a plan in order to keep the children happy and distracted. The clip’s final 30 seconds show Miss Caroline exerting her authority with chatty males, all the while taking out various zombies. Check out the Little Monsters trailer and poster below.

For Nyong’o, Little Monsters provides the opportunity for the Kenyan-Mexican actress to further diversify her filmography. In Jordan Peele’s Us, she plays dual roles as Adelaide Wilson and the Tethered character Red. Last year, she portrayed Nakia in the MCU franchise film Black Panther. And Nyong’o also voices Maz Kanata in the Star Wars franchise. In 2013, she delivered a breakthrough performance in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, and ultimately won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Nyong’o is currently filming the Simon Kinberg-directed thriller 355

Based on the Little Monsters trailer, Forsythe appears to be influenced by Edgar Wright’s Cornetto trilogy. Considering the amount of zombie films being produced, it will be interesting to see how this particular film differentiates itself. With Nyong’o playing off Gad, and vice versa, Little Monsters should be one of the year’s most unforgettable dark comedies.
