Divergent
The first film in the Divergent series raked in more than its successors. Loaded with strong characters, a fascinating world, and high stakes, the sci-fi action film was greeted with excitement despite its differences from the book. It showed Tris' origin story and helped develop her into the strong-willed heroine she becomes.
The film won People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Action Movie and Favorite Movie Duo. It additionally won a handful of Teen Choice Awards and scored over $150 million at the box office.
La La Land
The fanciful Hollywood musical film known as La La Land scored big at Christmas time. It stars Emma Stone as an actress and Ryan Gosling as a jazz musician — each struggling to find success against the backdrop of L.A.
The romantic comedy’s $30 million budget was transformed into $151 million at the domestic box office and a whopping $446 million internationally. The film was also critically successful, raking in awards at the Oscars as one of only three films to receive 14 nominations.
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum
The Internet's beloved Keanu Reeves reprised his titular role in the third John Wick film, and audiences were eager to see it happen. Parabellum takes place just an hour after the conclusion of the previous film, with ex-hitman Wick attempting to escape hordes of assassins.
The 2019 neo-noir action thriller was both a critical and box office success, receiving praise from film reviewers and a $168 million domestic gross.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2
The final film in The Hunger Games series saw Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) on a quest to take down the Capitol in the dystopian country of Panem with help from the rebels in District 13. The film featured an impressive cast, all of whom were praised for their strong performances.
The epic conclusion featured all the twists and turns lovers of the franchise wanted to see, and critics were left satisfied, too, despite the final book being split into two films. It brought in over $281 million domestically and $653 million worldwide.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2
The final installment in the Twilight saga — though greeted by mixed reviews — raked in $292 at the domestic box office and a crazy $829 million worldwide.
The conclusion to the vampire series has Bella (Kristen Stewart) awakening from her life-threatening labor and learning to protect her daughter from the threats of the world. Though nothing has been confirmed, there are constant rumors floating around that Twilight spin-offs are still a possibility.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1
The first half of the Mockingjay book premiered in theaters in 2014. It showed Katniss’ struggle to acclimatize to her new life as the symbol of a rebellion while setting up for the epic conclusion to come.
The third film in the Hunger Games series was highly anticipated by fans, who couldn’t wait to see more following the beautiful visuals and exciting story of Catching Fire. The big-budget film scored $337 million at the domestic box office and $755 million worldwide.

Though both Mockingjay installments did well at the box office, neither of them could have become a reality without the first film in the franchise. Before Katniss was leading rebels, she was just a girl who volunteered for the Hunger Games — an annual televised competition in which young tributes fought to the death.

Catching Fire sees visually stunning sets, superb acting, and a compelling story come together in one of Lionsgate's truly epic masterpieces. It stayed true to the book's core while making minor deviations that elevated its appeal. While the 2013 blockbuster remains Lionsgate's most popular film to date, there is always the possibility that it'll be beaten in the future. As a new Hunger Games prequel is on the way, the series could end up beating its own record.
