Lindsay Lohan still wants to make Mean Girls 2 happen, even as writer Tina Fey prepares the Mean Girls stage musical. The 31-year-old actress spoke at a New York City holiday party on Wednesday and showed a lot of enthusiasm about getting the cast and crew back together for a sequel to their cult classic.
Lohan has been vocal about wanting to do the Mean Girls sequel for awhile now, even going so far as to write a treatment for it on her own. However, it is well-known that Lohan’s career came off track due to years of personal problems that left her struggling to get back into a healthy place. Lohan seems like she is ready to make a big come back now, though, with plans for a return not only to movies, but music as well.
One awkward obstacle to this whole plan is that Mean Girls 2 has already been made, albeit in direct-to-DVD form. It was nowhere near as well-received as its predecessor, and those who are even aware of its existence likely don’t count it as a true sequel, seeing as how it did not have any of the original cast members. So if Lohan’s work to get a true sequel off the ground does come to fruition, the 2011 version of the film will likely just be ignored. As Lohan joked to E! News:
"I'm here in New York, so Tina Fey better be hiding or I'm going to find her and Lorne Michaels. I know where his desk is."
Lindsay is not putting all of her eggs in one basket, though. As mentioned, she’s interested in getting back into music as well. She also mentioned that while she is in New York, she would like to get in touch with Ed Sheeran and Eminem about possibly collaborating. Clearly, Lohan has a lot to get done during her time in the city. But of course, Mean Girls 2 is the project that would excite people the most, and Lohan definitely shares that excitement:
"Mean Girls 2 the movie - this is the importance. We need Rachel McAdams! We need the whole cast back!"
You might think it’s a longshot, but maybe not. Tina Fey doesn’t seem like she’s against the idea of revisiting one of her most popular projects. In addition to the Mean Girls musical, back when the direct-to-DVD version of Mean Girls 2 was released years ago, Fey said "Now, it’s like, why not just do it? I should have done it, because now it's happening anyway!"
So who knows? “Fetch” might never happen, but perhaps the version of Mean Girls 2 fans have been craving actually will.
