With The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 released on Netflix in full, viewers are itching for The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 updates. Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 adapts The Brass Verdict, Michael Connelly’s second Mickey Haller novel from 2007, in addition to some material from his original book, The Lincoln Lawyer. There are several more books, so there’s plenty more material to draw on without worrying about the connection between the Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer and Bosch on Amazon Prime. The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 explored Mickey Haller’s (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) return to law after a lengthy absence and addiction to prescription painkillers.

However, other than the Elliot case, Haller also dealt with several plots from The Lincoln Lawyer, Michael Connelly’s first Mickey Haller book. This includes the stories of Harold “Hard Case” Casey and Jesus Menendez, an innocent man serving a life sentence for a murder charge. The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 ends on a cliffhanger. While the main case has been sorted out via a “brass verdict,” there are unanswered questions surrounding several characters and a man thought to be a murderer is watching Haller. With plenty of questions remaining and plenty of Haller books to draw inspiration from, Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 updates look promising.

The Latest The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 News

Micky and Maggie in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2

The latest The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 updates revealed the storyline of the season - a twist-filled case that sees Mickey Haller in a very different place in life. He is successful and media outlets are praising him for his work, something that threatens to go to his head. Manuel García-Rulfo is back as Mickey, and he has hinted at what is to come for his character in a season that he says has a "lot of twists and turns" while also seeing Mickey both very confident and at the top of his game in his professional life, but still struggling in his personal life. There is also a new character coming in season 2, with Mickey's mother Elena (Angélica María) showing up.

"It’s heartbreaking because [Mickey and Maggie] love each other, and it’s a genuine love. And especially because they have a daughter, Hayley [Krista Warner], but with all the circumstances, it’s hard... Mexican mothers are too funny; they treat their [grown-up] children like little kids. People will like that [relationship]."

This will also make his new case even tougher. The new The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 storyline sees Mickey in a romantic relationship with a chef named Lisa Trammell (Lana Parrilla). However, that is thrown into turmoil when she calls him from jail and lets him know she has been accused of murdering a predatory real estate developer named Mitchell Bondurant. Mickey immediately takes on the case, pro bono, before realizing there might be more to the murder, and to Lisa than he originally thought.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Is Confirmed

Mickey looking quizzical

As of June 2022, The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 updates reveal that season 2 has been officially confirmed by Netflix with 10 episodes set to adapt The Fifth Witness, Connelly's fourth Mickey Haller novel. This is good news for the series, as it was already clear that writer David E. Kelley had plans to continue the stories of the characters in another season. Likewise, the other TV series adaptation of Michael Connelly’s work, Bosch, ran for 7 seasons before ending and returning as Bosch: Legacy. There was clearly plenty of room for The Lincoln Lawyer season 2, and thankfully Netflix has determined that the series was successful enough to continue.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Release Date

The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 release date is a little more complex, as The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 updates reveal that the season will premiere in two parts. Part 1 will debut on Netflix on July 6th, 2023 and part 2 will hit the streaming service on August 3rd, 2023. This is relatively in line with the season 1 premiere, which also saw a summer release on the streaming giant on May 13th, 2022. However, this is the first time in series history that The Lincoln Lawyer will have a two-part release schedule. Since The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 is slated to have 10 episodes, it's likely that the first five will make up part 1 and the second 5 will make up part 2.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Story Details

The Lincoln Lawyer Mickey Haller Surfing

While the latest The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 updates confirm that the chapter will be adapting the fourth Connelly book, The Fifth Witness, there are still plot threads left over from The Brass Verdict that The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 story needs to wrap up. When Mickey Haller manages to prove Jesus Menendez’s innocence, it leaves a big question: who really killed Martha Renteria? This question is a huge part of the first Mickey Haller book. In The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 ending, the man with the tattoo who presumably killed Martha Renteria is shown watching Mickey Haller, which fits with that character’s narrative in the book and suggests that Netflix always had plans to adapt that plot for The Lincoln Lawyer season 2.

However, The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 trailer makes it look like that question has little to do with the new season. It appears there might be changes to The Fifth Witness's story. In the book, it was a long-time client that comes to Mickey when she is accused of a murder she said she didn't commit. However, the trailer makes it look like it is a new character, someone Mickey has fallen for and is dating who calls him for help when she is accused of killing someone. Needing his ex-wives help, Mickey sets out to clear her name, even if the truth is that she might be guilty of the crime after all.

The newest The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 trailer arrived just in time for Part 1 of the new season. The new trailer finally gives a good look at what fans can expect from the series' new season. Mickey Haller has become very famous since his last case, getting the cover story of a magazine and finding his face in the newspaper with stories about his cases. While he tries not to let it go to his head, Mickey also ends up dating Lisa Trammell (Lana Parrilla) - who ends up arrested and calling him for help, which brings him onto the cast pro bono. Of course, with Mickey Haller, nothing is ever as it seems in his professional or personal life.

The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 is now available on Netflix.
