Following its renewal by Netflix, there has been considerable debate around The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 and what book it will be based on. Season 1 was an adaptation of Michael Connelly’s The Brass Verdict, from the Mickey Haller Series, and it looks like the showrunners intend to go down the book adaptation route again. The Mickey Haller Series contains six books in total, so there’s much speculation about which book Netflix would adapt next.

The Lincoln Lawyer revolves around an enigmatic defense lawyer, Mickey Haller, whose unconventional style of doing business out of his Lincoln sedan earns him the nickname Lincoln Lawyer. Season 1 came down to one question, whether Haller could free his former client, Jesus Menendez, convicted of the murder of a woman named Martha. However, Haller’s witness disappeared before she was billed to testify, and the key to solving the mystery was finding her. Season 1 left the audience on a cliffhanger with many questions, like whether season 2 would highlight the actual killer of the woman Menendez wrongly went to jail for killing.

Netflix has now confirmed that season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer will contain a batch of 10 episodes based on the fourth book in the Mickey Haller series, The Fifth Witness. Based on the ending of season 1, it appears that the showrunners will plot The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 around the identity of Martha’s actual killer. Season 1 ended with a suspicious-looking tattooed man who fits the character’s narrative in the book, watching Haller from a distance, leading to presumptions that Netflix will adopt that storyline for The Lincoln Lawyer season 2.

The shot to the frame of the mystery man lined up a season 2 perfectly and left the audience with many questions in anticipation of the yet-to-be-released season. It suggests that while Haller was at peace with himself after his surfing accident and getting Menendez out of jail, unknown people were unhappy about it. Gloria’s confirmation that her attacker had a tattoo on his arm, just like this mystery man, further hints that in season 2, Haller may have to deal with the fact that getting an innocent man out of jail may have put the actual killer back in the spotlight.

Viewers can expect to see some of the leading cast members in season 1 returning. So far, Netflix has confirmed that the actors who play Haller, Lorna, Maggie, Cisco, and Izzy will reprise their roles. However, since The Fifth Witness is centered around a new case for Haller to unravel, the audience can expect to see some new faces in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2.
