Sarah Simmons has shared the messy end of her romantic relationship with her estranged husband Michael Simmons. Now, Life After Lockup fans are watching her embark on a new romance with her boyfriend Malcolm. While speaking exclusively with ScreenRant, Sarah dished on why it's her "turn to be with somebody else."
The former couple first appeared on season two of Life After Lockup. Sarah was a single mom awaiting the release of her incarcerated husband, Michael. The two had met and fallen in love as teenagers before Michael was sent to prison for three years. After getting married during his sentence, Sarah expected the couple to live happily ever after upon his release. Once he was out they moved quickly in conceiving their second daughter, Gianha. But, during her pregnancy, Sarah was hit with the harsh reality of Michael's cheating. After multiple failed attempts at winning him back, Sarah left him while he pursued other women and new relationships. The two continue to fight over Michael's absence in their daughter's lives. He lives in Miami while Sarah and the girls live in upstate New York.
In season four, fans were introduced to Sarah's new boyfriend Malcolm. He has been at Sarah's place working to build a stronger bond with her and her daughters. But, Michael is also in town to spend time with his daughters. While speaking exclusively with ScreenRant, Sarah dished on how happy she is to have finally found someone after her tumultuous relationship with Michael. When asked what fans can expect to get out of her storyline this season, Sarah explained the change in dynamic this time around. "I know Michael and I have been through a lot of things," the WeTV star admitted. "We've been through, on his end, a lot of different relationships to say the least, and co-parenting and things like that." But, for fans who have kept up, Sarah touched on how things between her and Michael switched as a result of Malcolm.
"I guess for this season, it's kind of like my turn to experience what it's like to be with somebody else, and how you handle that in a situation with a baby dad and children, and how that unfolds," Sarah explained. "I think that's very important, because there's lots of chapters in our story." Since sharing her messy breakup with Michael onscreen, Sarah expresses how important it is for viewers to see the light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to her love life and people who can relate to it. "This one is pretty significant," Sarah added. "When it comes to introducing somebody else in my life while Michael is still attached."
Michael has expressed some resentment towards Sarah's new relationship. During his confessional, he boasted about being able to take Sarah away from Malcolm if he wanted to. It looks like there is still some type of attachment there between the former lovers.
