An official Lies of P alpha gameplay trailer shows off the gothic action game's unique blend of Bloodborne-tinged atmosphere and BioShock Infinite-like enemy design. The indie Soulslike game, developed by Round8 Studio, puts a dark spin on the classic tale of the lying marionette Pinocchio. Revealed back in May, Lies of P's moody reveal trailer immediately put the title's similarity to Bloodborne at the forefront of public discussion.

In a Lies of P gameplay trailer revealed by IGN, the major inspirations behind the game seem even clearer. Lies of P's first-person action borrows from Bloodborne in terms of both gameplay and atmosphere. Players will traverse a large gothic city, battling monstrous foes in fast-paced, close-quarters combat. The various weapons revealed in the trailer, ranging from a sword to a massive saw, seem quite similar to Bloodborne's iconic trick weapons. Meanwhile, the world design and enemy variety in Lies of P appear to be inspired by FPS BioShock Infinite. An abundance of the game's enemies look like monstrous animatronic robots similar in appearance and theme to BioShock Infinite's Motorized Patriots.

Bloodborne has become a highly influential part of video game history, with many still gravitating towards the game's gothic city of Yharnam and Lovecraftian storyline. Some particularly dedicated fans have even sought to recapture the Soulslike's unique tone in a Bloodborne PSX demake, but Round8 Studio's Lies of P is instead molding this influence into a wholly original title. The game is highly reminiscent of Bloodborne in terms of atmosphere and gameplay, but BioShock Infinite also seems to have inspired the title's disturbing enemies - an interesting combination that could pay off.
