Will Netflix move forward with The Letter for the King season 2? Here's everything we know so far about when more episodes could release, and how the story might continue. Created for television by Will Davies, The Letter for the King season 1 released on March 20, 2020.

The Letter for the King season 1 follows Tiuri (His Dark Materials' Amir Wilson), a Dagonaut teenager who trains to become a knight. During a challenge, he comes face-to-face with a dying man who requests that he deliver a rather important message to King Favian (Yorick van Wageningen) - one that details the treachery of King-to-Be Prince Viridian (Gijs Blom). The six episodes of The Letter for the King season 1 explore Tiuri's relationship with his young peers, including Mistrinaut native Lavinia (Ruby Ashbourne Serkis). Together, they attempt to understand the larger picture in The Letter for the King season 1, most notably a blood moon prophecy.

Letter For The King Season 2 Renewal

Netflix hasn't yet ordered The Letter for the King season 2. If the streaming service adheres to its usual renewal/cancellation schedule, an official decision will be announced approximately three to six weeks after the March 20, 2020 release date. Critics haven't really been raving about The Letter for the King season 1, but the fantasy aspect could make the series popular amongst Netflix subscribers. Expect a decision to be made some time in April 2020.

If Netflix green lights The Letter for the King season 2, productions for six new episodes could theoretically commence later in the year. If there aren't any major scheduling conflicts, a second installment would presumably release in 2021. But given the scope of production (not to mention potential delays due to the coronavirus pandemic), Netflix may need a little more time than usual. It's likely that The Letter for the King season 2 may not premiere until the latter half of 2021, if not early 2022.

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Letter for the King season 1.

The Letter for the King season 1 on Netflix ends with Tiuri reaching King Favian and breaking the bad news. However, Prince Viridian doesn't appear phased, and instead just waits for everything to play out as it's supposed to. He's killed by his own brother, and then re-born as the blood moon rises. Fortunately, Lavinia's powers are too much to handle, and darkness is defeated by the light. The surviving members of the gang return home to Dagonaut as heroes, as Tiuri and his comrades are officially knighted - even young Piak (Nathanael Saleh). Meanwhile, their former pal Iona (Thaddea Graham) rides off into the sunset with Jaro.

The final moments of The Letter for the King season 1 show that a flock of birds have created a unique formation, one that appears to be none other than the darkness that is Prince Viridian. So, it seems that The Letter for the King season 2 may stay faithful to the original franchise source material, as Tonke Dragt unveiled The Secrets of the Wild Wood not long after De brief voor de Koning was published in 1962.
