Lethal Weapon Season 3 Teaser Introduces Seann William Scott’s New Character

A new promo for Lethal Weapon season 3 introduces Seann William Scott’s Wesley Cole, demonstrating that the casting change won’t upset the show’s central dynamic too much. Soon after the dust had settled on the behind-the-scenes fracas that brought Clayne Crawford’s time on the show as Martin Riggs to an end, FOX and Warner Bros. Studios announced they would be moving forward with another season of the series by bringing in a brand new character, one who leaves Damon Wayans’s Roger Murtaugh similarly vexed.

Scott’s addition to the series seems like a good fit. After all, the actor has essentially made a career out of playing men who specialize in needling others well past the point of frustration. If producers of Lethal Weapon are keen to capture the same endearingly antagonistic relationship (only onscreen this time) that made the Mel Gibson and Danny Glover films such a hit, and eventually spawned a surprisingly successful TV series, well they probably came to the right actor. And from what’s on display in the short promo above, it looks like Scott will make a fine addition to the series.

The new promo, aptly titled ‘New Partner,’ doesn’t explain what ultimately happened to Riggs following the bloody season 2 finale, but it does make it clear that Murtaugh is in the market for  a — no surprise — new partner. The rest of the promo spends a precious few seconds ensuring Scott’s character is as “lethal” as his predecessor and that he shares a similar disregard for his own personal wellbeing.

Lethal Weapon Season 3 Cast

Scott’s comedic skills, combined with an on-screen persona he’s cultivated for nearly two decades, beginning with his role as Stifler in American Pie, make him a natural fit for the show. Though the promo is regrettably short, it does nevertheless manage to cover all the bases of what viewers need to know about this new addition. With the season 3 premiere creeping up soon, it’s a good bet future promos will do more to establish who Murtaugh’s new partner really is.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Cole and Murtaugh can work on the same level as Riggs and Murtaugh, or if it doesn’t really matter who’s partnered with who, so long as one is increasingly unhinged and the other is definitely too old for this s**t.
