Let It Snow Movie Trailer Previews Netflix's YA Christmas Rom-com

Jacob Batalon in Netflix's Let It Snow movie trailer

Netflix releases the Let It Snow movie trailer, previewing the holiday YA film based on the best-selling novel by John Green (The Fault in Our Stars), Lauren Myracle, and Maureen Johnson. Both the trailer and poster tout its large ensemble cast and Christmas vibe. This looks to be in the vein of other ensemble-based rom-coms like Love, Actually and Valentine's DayIt will hit Netflix on November 8th, just in time for the start of the holiday season.

The book was published in 2008 to critical praise. It features three interconnected stories each written by one of the authors. At the time, Green's Fault in Our Stars had not been released, but his other popular novel, Looking for Alaska (recently adapted into a Hulu series), hit the shelves three years before. Myracle had her Internet Girls series while Johnson released 13 Little Blue Envelopes in 2005.

Netflix's adaptation of Let It Snow follows the residents of a small Midwestern town on Christmas Eve, right as a snowstorm hits. A group of high schoolers collide and find friendship, excitement, and love as the clock ticks down to Christmas Day. It is unclear how closely the film will follow the book, but the trailer already suggests there may be some new additions to the stories.

Let It Snow Movie Poster

Let It Snow boasts a large cast of familiar faces. Audiences may recognize Isabela Mercad (formerly Moner, Dora and the Lost City of Gold), Spider-Man fan favorite Jacob Batalon, and Kiernan Shipka (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina). Also rounding out the cast are Mitchell Hope (the Descendants movies), Odeya Rush (Lady Bird), and Shameik Moore (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).

Netflix has a solid track record when it comes to connecting with young adult audiences, with last year's To All the Boys I've Loved Before counting among its biggest success stories. Other Netflix YA releases haven't quite hit the same level TATBILB did, but most garner some level of conversation on social media, so expect Let It Snow to do the same. Netflix is also known for their holiday rom-coms, making Let It Snow the perfect combination for the streamer. The release of Let It Snow ironically matches that of another holiday rom-com: Last Christmas, featuring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding. Fans of Christmas movies with a romantic spin will surely have a lot to pick from, and it will be interesting to see if one emerges as a clear favorite.
