For seven seasons, Parks and Recreation made people everywhere crave for a deeper sense of community. Not only did Leslie Knope show us all how *fun* politics could be, but she lit a fire under everyone's behind to chase their dreams. Season by season, we saw Leslie create and dominate new goals. As fans, we were inspired and empowered — her co-workers in Pawnee, Indiana felt the same way (although they thought she was a tad dramatic at times).
Now that Parks and Rec. has ended, we can't help but watch reruns and reconnect with some of the awesome things Leslie has said and believed in. Below are 10 of her most badass quotes that make fans everywhere miss the sleepy, raccoon-filled town of Pawnee. Oh, and of course, Leslie Knope.
10 'I AM A GODDESS'
It's no surprise that Leslie Knope is a feminist. She believes in equality of the sexes and demands democracy. In one episode, Leslie decided to take charge of the Pawnee Goddesses (Pawnee's version of the Girl Scouts). It was within the Goddesses that she said, "I am a goddess. A glorious female warrior queen of all that I survey. Enemies of fairness and equality, hear my womanly roar," which ended up being the group's pledge. It was funny, it was empowering, and she made women everywhere believe they too were goddesses!
9 'DID YOU HAER THAT? THAT WAS THE SOUND OF THE GLASS CEILING BEING SHATTERED'
Leslie understands that not everyone is going to like you in politics. Likewise, she's not always going to be favored at work, but that's what her job calls for.
One day she and Ann decided they wanted to join the Boys Night that happened every Tuesday after work. They'd all meet in the quad and have some beers before heading home. Wanting to be "one of the boys," Leslie tries to be "cool" and "chill" to fit in. She does a pretty good job and even thinks she broke through the glass ceiling when someone actually shattered their beer bottle... You gotta love her enthusiasm.
8 'I DON'T WANT TO BE OVERDRAMATIC, BUT TODAY FELT LIKE 100 YEARS IN HELL'
Haven't we all had those weeks where days felt like years? Leslie sure has a ton of issues she needs to deal with every day and she's entitled to complaining every once in a while. So when she said "I don't want to be dramatic, but today felt like 100 years in Hell," not only did fans laugh, but they laughed because they totally resonated with her.
7 'I'VE GONE ON RECORD THAT IF I HAD TO HAVE A STRIPPER'S NAME, IT WOULD BE EQUALITY'
Leslie Knope desperately wants to fit in with her friends, co-workers, and even her enemies. She understands there's always going to be differences but she does try to 'walk a mile in their shoes,' if you will.
So when Tom's getting divorced from his fake wife, they try to cheer him up by taking him to a strip club, and of course, Leslie had to give her two cents to the situation saying, "I've gone on record that if I had to have a stripper's name, it would be Equality." If this didn't make you fall in love with her, we don't know which quote would.
6 'WELL, THERE IS A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT DON'T CONSIDER SALAD FOOD'
One of Leslie's biggest accomplishments early on in her career is creating and implementing the Harvest Festival. Considering she was in charge of the entire event, she was also in charge of finding vendors for the festival. One woman came in demanding there be salad at the festival, saying she loved salad and Pawnee needed a healthier option. Now, since Leslie eats waffles every week with whipped cream (and chocolate in her coffee), it's safe to say she doesn't give a darn about salads.
5 'WHAT I HEAR WHEN I'M BEING YELLED AT IS PEOPLE CARING LOUDLY AT ME'
The early episodes of the first few seasons were pretty special for fans because we really got an inside look at what Leslie dealt with every day (along with what her passions were).
When she was showing the camera what a public forum was like in Pawnee, we saw how angry many of the community members were. Adorably, she says "So what I hear when I'm being yelled at is people caring loudly at me." It's a strange—but lovely—way of thinking when being publicly scolded at. It only made fans respect her more.
4 'OVARIES BEFORE BROVARIES'
Ann and Leslie didn't really like too many of the same men. They have different interests, if you ask me. However, in the early seasons, Leslie was obsessed with Mark and Mark was equally obsessed with her BFF Ann. There was also that lawyer named Justin that Ann and Leslie were both crushing on. However, over time these two found the men they were meant to be with. But that didn't stop these two from having a touching heart-to-heart about their friendship being more important than some dude.
As Leslie is whipping up her waffles—and adding chocolate to her coffee—she says to Ann, "You know my code: hoes before bros. Uteruses before duderuses. Ovaries before brovaries."
3 'I AM SUPER CHILL ALL THE TIME'
When Leslie chases her goals to City Council, she was willing to do anything to beat out Bobby Newport and become friends with everyone in Pawnee.
After her team of supporters asked the community what they thought of her, there was one man in particular who didn't find one thing about Leslie he liked. This drove Leslie mad and she tried to be "super chill" and laid back just to gain his vote. This, of course, backfired as Leslie is anything but chill. She is on all the time but that's why we love her!
2 'I'LL TAKE THE CHEAPEST ONE YOU HAVE BECAUSE I CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE'
Leslie loves her sweets but she's also been seen with a glass of wine here and there. Now, wine is one of those things that has a cult following. There's an intense science to wine, how it's made, the kinds of grapes used, and the year the wine was made. However, most people can agree that it all tastes the same! And Leslie agrees. After having a nice, romantic dinner, Leslie immediately asks for wine to calm her nerves, saying "I'm going to be direct and honest with you. I would like a glass of red wine and I'll take the cheapest one you have because I can't tell the difference."
1 'HE TOLD ME HE LIKED ME, AND I'M GONNA GO MAKE OUT WITH HIM RIGHT NOW. ON HIS FACE'
Leslie Knope fans were thrilled when she and Ben FINALLY got together. They were playing cat and mouse for so long — but there was an obvious attraction between the two. They were close friends and great co-workers, so why wouldn't they also be great lovers?
These two obviously had their ups and downs, but when Ben finally broke the ice about his feelings for her, Leslie knew what she had to do; she called her BFF Ann and told her she was about to make out with him "on his face." Ugh, gotta love her!
