Update: On July 20th at San Diego Comic-Con, The LEGO Group unveiled a giant 14-foot tall, near 700,000 brick-build of LEGO Super Mario The Mighty Bowser. Photos below after original article.

A massive new addition to the LEGO Super Mario lineup brings Bowser to life using nearly 3,000 plastic bricks. The epic crossover transforms Nintendo's mustached mascot, and his lovable supporting cast, into electronic construction toys for all ages. The LEGO Super Mario electronic game was first revealed in March 2020, and since then the collaboration has expanded to include a wide range of additional characters and settings.

The world of Super Mario is incredibly iconic and colorful, allowing LEGO to create many different sets inspired by the Nintendo platformer franchise. The original LEGO Super Mario project turned the acrobatic plumber into an electronic figure, allowing fans to build physical courses and have Mario traverse them just like the game series. Subsequent sets have added even more characters and items to the mix, allowing players to build beach levels or have Mario ride a flying clown car. Back in 2020 an expansion set introduced a LEGO Super Mario version of Bowser, the series' iconic antagonist, but a much more intimidating version of the dragon tyrant has now been revealed by LEGO.

A Twitter post from Nintendo of America has revealed The Mighty Bowser, a massive LEGO Super Mario figure made up of 2,807 bricks. As detailed on the LEGO website, the extra large version of King Koopa is priced at $270 and comes complete with head and leg articulation alongside a fireball launching mechanism. LEGO has introduced brand-new pieces to recreate Bowser's iconic spikes, allowing the dragon to comet life in impressive detail. The Mighty Bowser will be available in stores on October 1, 2022, and the impressive LEGO Super Mario figure will likely take some time to assemble.

The Mighty Bowser is a particularly awe-inspiring addition to the crossover series' lineup, but back in June multiple LEGO Super Mario character packs turned other iconic figures into plastic too. The new sets introduced characters like Baby Yoshi, Nabbit and a Hammer Bro to the already robust lineup of plastic platformer figures. These additions allow players to create even more detailed and robust LEGO Super Mario levels, increasing the creativity that fans can demonstrate through construction. However, these additional characters are all dwarfed by the enormous Mighty Bowser and his fireball launcher.

Bowser has been a reoccurring rival to Mario since 1985, and LEGO Super Mario fans can now construct King Koopa in all his terrifying glory. The huge rendition of the dragon tyrant looms large over the rest of the plastic crossover cast, demonstrating his terrible power and status as each game's final boss. Starting October 1 fans will be able to build Mighty Bowser for themselves, adding a particularly large LEGO icon to their Super Mario collection.

UPDATE: 14-Foot Mighty Bowser Built at Comic-Con 2022 Photos & Details

For the first time ever, the LEGO Group is unveiled an incredible king-sized build of LEGO Mario and LEGO Luigi’s nemesis – LEGO Super Mario™ The Mighty Bowser™ – at San Diego Comic Con. LEGO Super Mario fans of all ages can now marvel at the King of the Koopas in all his powerful glory as part of the Nintendo booth (#235) on the show floor.

The whopping build – measuring an impressive 14-feet – is credit to the hugely successful and ever-growing LEGO® Super Mario product line. First launching in partnership with Nintendo in 2020, the range features some of the most iconic and popular figures of the Super Mario™ franchise, including Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach. In fact, the king-sized creation of Bowser pays homage to the smaller, more manageably sized LEGO Super Mario The Mighty Bowser, which will be on sale from October 1st.

The final build is an impressive feat with 662,872 bricks used and 3,290 hours spent bringing the beloved character to life. Operated by a control panel, the model’s arms, head, eyes, eyebrows and jaw all move and are accompanied by sound effects and background music.

Federico Bagher, Head of Global Marketing at the LEGO Group:

“Bringing The Mighty Bowser to life in this unique representation was the natural choice and very much in line with what we offer in LEGO Super Mario. In our theme, we bring together interactivity and brick building. The same can be said of this king-sized version of Bowser, who is as ferocious as he is fun. With its movements and sound effects, this massive build is one of our most interactive to date, and one that we absolutely loved building. We’re excited to share it with everyone at Comic Con this year.”
