Update (9/9/2021 11:20 AM EDT):  Nintendo has officially revealed the LEGO Super Mario 64 Question Block in a trailer. Similar to the LEGO NES, the new playset is buildable and houses multiple miniature versions of Super Mario 64 worlds, including Peach's Castle, Cool Cool Mountain, and Bob-omb Battlefield. The LEGO Super Mario 64 Question Block set will release on October 1 and retail at $170. The original story continues below.

Nintendo and LEGO have just teased their next Super Mario-themed collaboration with a cryptic video of the iconic Question Block in plastic form. This team-up has already produced LEGO Super Mario, a customizable electronic board game that features high-tech LEGO Minifigures of Mario and Luigi as they travel through a shifting obstacle course of locations and enemies pulled straight from their video game adventures.

Since the release of the main LEGO Super Mario set last year, LEGO and Nintendo have been building on its success with several expansions based on classic Mario levels like Bowser’s Castle, as well as Power-Up Packs that add bonuses and special abilities just like in the games. The most recent of these expansions added a LEGO version of Mario’s faithful brother Luigi into the building-block-filled mix in August, as well as two-player co-op support so fans can enjoy the fun and interactivity of LEGO Super Mario with their friends.

According to VGC, Nintendo and LEGO are now teasing another fun Mario crossover, though this one will likely be outside of the LEGO Super Mario board game. Earlier today, a brief video was posted onto the official LEGO Twitter account, showing what looks like a highly detailed LEGO model of the power-up granting Question Block in a dark room. The full clip can be seen in the Twitter post below.

Although fans are only now seeing the fruits of it, LEGO and Nintendo have been working together for the past four years. In addition to the LEGO Super Mario board game, this pairing has released a full-scale LEGO replica of the classic NES, complete with a connecting TV set and playable version of the original Super Mario. As noted by VGC, LEGO Creative Play Lab’s Jonathan Bennink has even teased that his company could eventually branch out into other Nintendo properties like The Legend Of Zelda or Star Fox. Additionally, LEGO recently stated that the Lego Super Mario sets have brought one of the company’s “most successful theme launches” to date.

With this success in mind, it isn't all that surprising that LEGO is continuing its line of Super Mario-themed building sets - especially since the simple, iconic design of the Question Block lends itself well to the ever-popular building toy. Details about what this new LEGO Super Mario Question Block building set entails - as well as when it’s going to be released - are still unknown at this point, so interested fans should stay tuned for further developments as they are made available.
