There are over 300 characters to play as in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, including the Wampa that can be unlocked by completing a side mission in Echo Base on Hoth. The side mission can be accessed while in the hub area in Story Mode or while exploring Echo Base in Free Play. After completing the mission and unlocking the Wampa, the character will need to be purchased for 500,000 Studs in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

In order to gain access to Echo Base in Story Mode or Free Play, every level in A New Hope, as well as the first level in The Empire Strikes Back, will need to be completed. Once the "Hoth and Cold" story mission, where Han Solo searches for Luke Skywalker, is completed, the "Wampa Wanderer" side mission will be available. Players will need to locate and speak to the Wampa hiding in Echo Base to begin the side mission.

Purchasing the rumor for the Wampa character in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will cost 30,000 Studs and doing so will show the character's unlock requirements. However, the "Wampa Wanderer" mission still needs to be located on Hoth. The mission rumor can be purchased for an additional 27,000 Studs which shows players to track it and follow the highlighted path to the Wampa NPC. The rumors can be helpful in getting started, but purchasing them isn't necessary for unlocking the Wampa.

To find the Wampa, players will need to go to the top-right room on the map in Echo Base. From the landing zone, players can go down the hallway on the right and follow the path to the end, then turn left and go into the first room on the right. The Wampa will ask to be escorted out of Echo Base, and players will need to help the creature avoid several groups of Rebels along the way.

There are three spots where the Wampa will stop during the mission. Any Rebels directly ahead of the stopping point will need to be defeated in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga so the Wampa can move on. The Rebels that are a part of the mission will have a cone of vision on the ground in front of them indicating their search area. Once all the Rebels are knocked out, players can speak to the Wampa to let it know that it's safe to proceed.

The process of stopping and defeating Rebels will need to be repeated a few times to complete the mission. After unlocking and purchasing the Wampa, it can be used to explore the galaxy. The Wampa has the ability to run through breakable objects to collect Studs. Completing the Wampa side mission is also one of the steps that need to be completed to unlock Rothgar Deng in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
