LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been a long-anticipated game for Star Wars fans over the past few years. Like LEGO Star Wars: The Complete SagaThe Skywalker Saga will include more than just one trilogy of movies, spanning from The Phantom Menace all the way to 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. Unfortunately, The Skywalker Saga has been delayed multiple times since its announcement in early 2019, but it looks like it may finally release in 2022.

Unlike the other trilogies in the Star Wars franchise, however, the sequel trilogy hasn't gotten the full LEGO treatment before. The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker are the only movies to not receive their own standalone LEGO Star Wars game, with only The Force Awakens having its own game from the sequel trilogy so far. Because of this, The Skywalker Saga should focus more on films that haven't been featured as LEGO video games before.

Traveller's Tales typically groups its LEGO Star Wars games by trilogies, but it took a different approach when the sequel trilogy began. In 2016, the company released LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, focusing only on the first film in that trilogy. When The Last Jedi came out in 2017, there was no mention of a LEGO adaptation of the movie, and it seemed like the strategy of adapting entire films instead of trilogies didn't work out as intended.

Why LEGO's Skywalker Saga Should Focus On The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy

LEGO's The Skywalker Saga is the first chance fans will have to play games based around The Last Jedi or The Rise of Skywalker, which is why the focus of the game should be on the new adaptations instead of the original and prequel trilogies. This isn't to say that fans shouldn't be excited to replay the LEGO version of Return of the Jedi; instead, it simply means that, hopefully, the developers are spending their time working on a fun, new version of the latest films, not worrying about updating the mechanics of the older LEGO Star Wars games.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens got pretty positive reviews from major outlets when it launched, too, which makes the prospect of finally get a LEGO version of The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker even sweeter. Although the formula for LEGO games has changed over the past two decades, now incorporating voice acting and larger open worlds, the core premise is the same. They're often a great co-op adventure for both kids and adults to enjoy, which is means hopes are high for when LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga releases.
