Although LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga serves as a compilation of all nine major Star Wars films, it has to take a few liberties when it comes to the plot by nature of being a more comedic interpretation of events, and this is especially apparent in its Revenge of the Sith episode. LEGO video games have consistently aimed for a more child-friendly and lighthearted approach to iconic stories such as Lord of the Rings, and previous LEGO Star Wars games have followed suit. It's no surprise that The Skywalker Saga, the latest entry in the series, doesn't deviate much from the formula. However, it did come as a surprise to some Star Wars fans that The Skywalker Saga's developers seemingly misinterpreted the plot of Revenge of the Sith while shaping the game's tone or cutting corners during development.

After a 2019 announcement, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was met with a great deal of excitement from long-time fans of the series. The original LEGO Star Wars games have grown to be nostalgic for many, and the possibility of bringing in characters from other Star Wars media, like Rogue One and The Mandalorian, was met with eager anticipation. Unfortunately, The Skywalker Saga was subject to quite a few delays over its development period, and its final release date of April 5 was only confirmed a few months in advance. Despite the game's overall positive reviews, the impact of the development crunch on the final product is apparent.

The rush is most apparent in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga's numerous glitches. However, even the gameplay has occasionally been harshly criticized, with some reviewers pointing out its unpolished levels and lack of properly fleshed-out mechanics. Although The Skywalker Saga is by far the most expansive LEGO Star Wars game, with over 300 characters and thousands of unique collectibles to unlock, this also means it's the most ambitious. The game's open-world hub areas are arguably more fun than even the best parts of The Skywalker Saga's story, and this manifests, at worst, in a lack of attention to detail.

What LEGO Star Wars Gets Wrong About Revenge Of The Sith

LEGO Star Wars Doesn't Understand Revenge of the Sith's Plot

One of the more notable instances of inconsistent storytelling in The Skywalker Saga occurs during LEGO Star WarsRevenge of the Sith level. A large portion of the Revenge of the Sith film follows Obi-Wan as he tracks down and confronts General Grievous. During an earlier part of the movie, Anakin is made aware of General Grievous' location on the planet Utapau. He alerts the Jedi Council, and they send Obi-Wan to attempt to defeat him. Obi-Wan lands at Pau City, where he meets with Port Administrator Tion Medon to discuss his purpose for being there. During their conversation, Obi-Wan lies and indicates that he intends to use Pau City as a base of operations while he searches nearby systems for Grievous, not wanting to give away that he is already aware of the General's location.

Fortunately, Tion Medon - who is sadly not a playable character in The Skywalker Saga - proves to be trustworthy and alerts the Jedi Master of Grievous' specific location within the city. However, in The Skywalker Saga's portrayal of Revenge of the Sith, the developers seem to have forgotten that this was a bluff on Obi-Wan's part. The Jedi Council indicates that they have no idea where Grievous could be located, and merely send Obi-Wan into the Outer Rim to search for him. It appears that he only discovers the General's hideout on Utapau thanks to Tion Medon rather than having the Port Administrator merely confirm what had already been revealed. It's a small detail, but it seems to be another point of evidence of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga's rushed nature of story and gameplay.
