A concrete release date for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has officially been revealed, confirming a spring 2022 launch for the highly-anticipated title. The new LEGO game will give players a way to play through the entire mainline Star Wars series from a new perspective. The game's adventures aren't a remaster, and have been made from the ground up, with new gameplay mechanics, fleshed-out story sequences, and much more.

Although it was believed the game would release much sooner, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was delayed. In 2021, it was confirmed that the title would release in spring 2022, but with that window steadily approaching, some fans were starting to expect another delay. After what seemed to be a lack of communication, noteworthy gameplay, and delays, many grew fearful for the game. Multiple games have been delayed over the last few months, in part due to the global pandemic, and while many developers and publishers have been transparent surrounding development issues, many fans were left concerned over the new LEGO Star Wars.

A brand-new LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga trailer from WB Games has given fans a new look at gameplay and confirms the game will release on April 5, 2022. The gameplay shows how TT Games has shaken up the LEGO formula and put a spin on classic Star Wars moments, such as Luke and Darth Vader's battle in Empire Strikes Back. On top of having adaptations for all nine films, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has DLC that will allow fans to play with characters and items from The MandalorianSolo: A Star Wars Story, and other spin-offs.

Given the game was revealed in 2019 and had a behind-closed-doors press showing at E3 2019, it's safe to assume the game has been in development for a while. It's not entirely clear what has taken TT Games so long given its extensive knowledge and experience with the LEGO brand, but this seems to have been a rather ambitious task. Not only did the team remake every mainline Star Wars movie from scratch, but the new LEGO Star Wars revamps the combat as well.

With such massive changes to a storied franchise, TT Games likely wanted to make sure the game was done right. Although there will be more Star Wars films and shows in the future, it's unclear if TT Games will give them their own LEGO game. As of right now, Disney has no plans to make any more mainline Star Wars films, though there are a number of Star Wars games in development across different studios. This isn't the first time the core saga has concluded, however, so there's always a chance an Episode X comes around, allowing for a sequel to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
