With three trilogies, multiple TV shows, and countless books, comics, and video games to its name, Star Wars fans have seen literally hundreds of characters from across the galaxy throughout its history.

The sheer amount of detail put into even the most minor characters means that even the least consequential characters can have incredibly complex backstories or huge followings. With the new LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga featuring nearly 400 playable characters, some of them really delve into the series back catalog.

Willrow Hood

LEGO Star Wars Willrow Hood

Even most background characters in Star Wars are vital parts of the world that the films have built, from outlandish alien designs to subtle connections to other movies. Willrow Hood is none of these. He is an extra from The Empire Strikes Back who became popular because he appears to be holding an ice cream machine.

Hood was given a name in later card games, where he gained a strange cult following among fans. Despite only being visible far in the background of a few frames of one movie, Willow Hood is an unlockable character in The Skywalker Saga, complete with his famous "ice cream machine." He is a fun Easter egg for long-time fans of the franchise.

Bobajjo

LEGO Star Wars Bobajjo

Bobajjo is one of the aforementioned outlandish aliens who appears in The Force Awakens as little more than a neat-looking background bit part. His character was fleshed out in tie-in books after the film was released.

Bobajjo is a merchant on Jakku who carries a variety of small animals with him. He tells children in the various villages he visits wild stories about the animals that probably have little basis in reality. Some fans are bound to be excited by Bobajjo's inclusion, but he probably will be overlooked by most.

Greeata Jendowanian

When most people first see Greeata Jendowanian, their first thought will likely be "What in the world is Greedo wearing?" Despite being the same species as Han Solo's original nemesis, Greeata is actually a completely different character.

She appears in Return of the Jedi as a dancer for Max Rebo's band in Jabba's palace during the musical number, and that is about the extent of her time in the franchise. What is even funnier is that she didn't even appear in the original version of the movie, only being added in in the special edition. She doesn't even appear in every version of her only film appearance, but players can still add Greeata to their roster.

OOM-9

LEGO Star Wars OOm-9

Believe it or not, OOM-9 actually played a significant role in one of the films, but even those who have seen it many times have likely never heard his name. OOM-9 is a battle droid commander who was in charge of the attack on the Gungans in The Phantom Menace.

He is never named in the film and only personally appears a handful of times, yet he is probably the most impactful character on this list. Being shut down with the other droids, OOM-9 has little else to his name. In the end, he is essentially just another battle droid.

Ree Yees

LEGO Star Wars Ree Yees

Ree Yees appears a decent amount of times in the early parts of Return of the Jedi as part of Jabba the Hutt's entourage. He never speaks an intelligible word, but he is present at both Jabba's palace and the sail barge when Jabba tries to feed the heroes to the Sarlacc. Nevertheless, he was a surprising addition to the LEGO Star Wars roster.

Ree Yees was given a slightly bigger role in a tie-in comic, where it is revealed that he is a very low-ranking member of Jabba's empire who has the noble job of watching Jabba's pet frog-dog. He also is notably not very good at it. Real exciting guy, right?

Mr. Bones

Mister Bones character promo for LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga

Arguably the most famous obscure character in the game, most famous because he is so obscure, Mr. Bones is another seemingly innocuous battle droid, albeit one that looks really cool. Mr. Bones has a sweet red paint job and bones grafted onto his armor.

Mr. Bones never actually appears in any Star Wars film or TV show. He was created exclusively for the Aftermath tie-in novels. Bones has a murderous personality despite being on the side of good, and is armed with a plethora of weapons. He is one of the stronger characters in the game, meaning that he is well worth finding the cheat code to unlock.

R2-KT

LEGO Star Wars R2-KT

R2-KT is one of the few characters to live through all three trilogies, and has a touching backstory outside of her canon role. R2-KT is a pink Astromech droid who first appeared in The Clone Wars film. It returned for a handful of episodes and even The Force Awakens.

The droid was created as a tribute to Katie Johnson, an avid Star Wars fan and daughter of the founder of the 501st Legion costume group. When Katie was diagnosed with cancer, this special pink R2 droid was created just for her. It now visits children's hospitals to raise awareness and funds for charity. R2-KT may be the only character more heroic outside of the films.

Ubbla Molbro

LEGO Star Wars Ubbla Molbro

Fans who have seen The Last Jedi will likely recognize Ubbla Molbro from the film's maligned Canto Bight sequence but probably felt little need to see her again. Molbro is one of the many patrons of the casino where Finn and Rose are looking for the codebreaker.

Molbro is an opera singer who looks like some kind of giant insect. She does little in the film outside of gamble and scream when the heroes run through the casino on their horses, and she has yet to be given any sort of elaboration since.

Rothgar Deng

LEGO Star Wars Rothgar Deng

Rothgar Deng actually has a significant amount of backstory for a character who has only appeared in one shot of a single movie. According to canon Deng is a bounty hunter who has replaced most of his body with cybernetics to keep himself alive.

Rumors persist that Rothgar Deng is actually Dengar, a bounty hunter who appeared in The Empire Strikes Back, but since Rothgar has not been seen since these rumors remain unfounded. The concept of a grizzled, cyborg bounty hunter is undeniably awesome, but when the most interesting part of his character is the possibility that he might be someone else, Rothgar Deng is easily one of the game's lesser-known characters.

Grakchawwaa

LEGO Star Wars Grakchawwaa

A character almost as unpronounceable as he is obscure, Grakchawwaa is one of the few Wookiees in Star Wars canon to actually be given a name. While not nearly as well known as Chewbacca or even Tarfful, Grakchawwaa did play a big part in the war of Kashyyyk in The Revenge of the Sith.

Grakchawwaa was the king of Kashyyyk at the time of the Clone Wars and can be seen rallying his troops before leading them into battle against the Separatist army. Grakchawwaa was only given a name in the mobile game Star Wars Uprising and has sadly not been seen since. Still, players could do a whole lot worse than the king of a whole planet.
