Even though LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has just recently released, it already has DLC available, but only in the form of additional characters. Seven different downloadable Character Packs provide purchasers with more playable LEGO minifigures in-game, but there isn't any more substantial bonus content just yet. The era of live service games has made it so even offline one- and two-player games like LEGO Skywalker Saga get support well after launch, but will there be more DLC to come for the latest release from developer Traveller's Tales?

So far there doesn't appear to be any plans for additional DLC beyond the seven Character Packs. There is still the possibility that more content will come to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in the future, but the first month of the game's availability is already filled with previously known DLC. Every character in LEGO Skywalker Saga's planned DLC will be available by Star Wars Day on May 4. The seven Character Packs (two of which are available on release day) can be purchased separately, or in bulk in one of two ways. The LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Character Collection season pass grants access to all upcoming DLC, a bonus included in the LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Deluxe Edition, which is $10 more than the Standard.

This doesn't mean more substantial DLC won't come to LEGO Skywalker Saga at some point, but the game has somewhat fulfilled its initial scope. The Skywalker Saga encompasses the nine mainline Star Wars films which are episodically numbered. While the game thoroughly covers all nine movies in an interactive LEGO brick format, there's certainly room for LEGO Skywalker Saga to have Star Wars DLC that's more than just characters. Even with Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm de-canonizing much of the Star Wars Extended Universe in 2012, there are other stories that could be retold even though they don't exactly fit under the Skywalker Saga banner.

All DLC Available For LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

LEGO Star Wars Skywalker Saga Bad Batch DLC Missing Omega

At the time of writing, two of the seven Character Packs are available because they released simultaneously with the base game. The Solo: A Star Wars Story and The Mandalorian Season 1 Character Packs can be purchased for $2.99 each, and unlock a handful of non-Skywalker Saga characters to use in any of the game's levels. These are Young Han Solo, Young Chewbacca, Young Lando Calrissian, Qi'ra, Tobias Beckett, Enfys Nest, Din Djarin (with non-controllable Grogu companion), Greef Karga, Cara Dune, IG-11, and Kuiil. Two more Character Packs will become available on April 19, with the remaining three unlocking on May 4.

Most similarly focus on characters from spin-off movies and series, although the Bad Batch DLC ignores its most important character and one of the Character Packs is just Minifigure reskins from the original LEGO Star Wars game. Overall, the initial DLC offerings for LEGO Skywalker Saga are fairly weak. Large playable character rosters are a staple of the series, and now some newer, popular characters are gated behind an additional purchase. It's set up under the guise of them coming from outside of the Skywalker Saga itself, but two Character Packs being available on launch just goes to show that they could have been included in the base game. Furthermore, none of the seven Character Packs have any substantial content, just cosmetic bonuses.

LEGO Star Wars DLC Could Bring Back Customization

LEGO Skywalker Saga should bring back character customization and more in future DLC

Despite LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga being something of a leap forward in gameplay and graphics for the series, it will not include character customization like some previous LEGO games. There are already over 300 playable characters in LEGO Skywalker Saga, but creating a custom character has its own appeal. Bringing back character customization would be a welcome bit of DLC, and add some longevity to the game. LEGO Skywalker Saga is already quite expansive, with nine whole movies to play through in addition to many free-roam levels, but building a custom cast of characters could make for some bonus entertainment.

Customization could be used for more than just characters as well. With the wide range of weapons and vehicles in the Star Wars universe, LEGO bricks are perfect for giving players a robust customization suite. Disney seems to be strict about its canon and what can be included in officially licensed products, but even just reskinning blasters, fiddling with lightsaber components, or swapping parts and colors on LEGO Skywalker Saga's many pilot-able vehicles would be a great addition. The versatility of LEGO makes customization in the series' video games theoretically limitless, but there are understandable restrictions imposed by the game engine and other aspects of the game's design.

LEGO Skywalker Saga Should Have New Levels As DLC

More levels, even just free roam environments, would be a good addition to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga as DLC

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has already become something of a catchall when it comes to the brick version of the sci-fi series. Even though the nine mainline films are the focus, the DLC characters already confirmed have brought many of the other high-profile characters into the mix. The obvious next step would be to create levels built around the various Disney+ shows and spin-off movies that have already been used for the Character Packs. LEGO Skywalker Saga has some issues to fix, but has so far garnered quite favorable reviews, meaning it could continue to be a destination for the series' future content. Solo and Rogue One are ripe for video game adaptions, but even concluded series like Rebels and The Clone Wars have plenty of set pieces that could be made into new missions for the game.

Even if Traveller's Tales is hesitant to add more story content, the ample free roaming in the game is perfect for being fleshed out with downloadable content. LEGO Skywalker Saga already has numerous planets that players can freely explore while searching for collectibles, collecting LEGO studs, and completing mini-games and side missions. The galaxy far, far away is incredibly vast, and there are planets missing from LEGO Skywalker Saga's galaxy map just waiting to be turned into an explorable form. When considering the possibilities of DLC, the current offering of nothing other than Character Packs is disappointing. No plans have been announced for future DLC, but if LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga performs well financially, there's always the possibility, and there are plenty of directions more content could take.
