Disney+ revisits the galaxy far, far away with the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special and features several familiar faces (and voices) along the way — here's every character who appears and who plays them. Released on Disney+ in time for Christmas 2020, the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special is an animated offering that takes place after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and features a wide array of characters from all three Star Wars trilogies.
The Mouse House's streaming service is proving to be the home of its most popular Star Wars content. While Star Wars: The Force Awakens shattered records, it was also considered something of a re-tread. Star Wars: The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker both had very different responses, but were similarly controversial and divisive. Fortunately, the universe has seemingly turned a corner with the acclaimed and widely popular series, The Mandalorian, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 was similarly well-received.
On top of that, the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special offers fans a chance to revisit various different corners of the cinematic galaxy — and all through the traditional, tongue-in-cheek lens of Lego. Taking inspiration from the 1978 outing of a similar name, the new short film was written by David Shayne and directed by Ken Cunningham. It follows the core group from the sequels preparing to celebrate Life Day. In the meantime, Rey embarks on a quest to further understand the Force. Visiting a Jedi temple, she soon discovers a special key that allows her to travel to previous points in the saga's timeline. As a result, she encounters several familiar faces as she fights to preserve the natural order and make it home to her friends. Here's a breakdown of every character in the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special and who voices them.
Helen Sadler as Rey
Voiced by Helen Sadler instead of Daisy Ridley, the hero of the Star Wars sequel trilogy returns, as Rey and BB-8 find themselves visiting several pivotal moments in the Skywalker saga. Sadler previously lent her voice to several Star Wars games and animated adventures, including Rogue One's Jyn Erso in Star Wars: Forces of Destiny. She also had a recurring role on True Blood.
Anthony Daniels as C-3PO
Voiced by Anthony Daniels, the beloved droid is glimpsed throughout the timeline, but most especially helping enliven the Life Day festivities in the present. Daniels, of course, has voiced C-3PO throughout the entirety of the Star Wars franchise, from live-action to games and animation. He's also made appearances in several popular British dramas.
Omar Miller as Finn
Between bouts of Jedi and lightsaber training, the Stormtrooper-turned-rebel-fighter returns to aid the others in celebrating Life Day in style. Instead of John Boyega, who was understandably frustrated with his Star Wars and Disney experience, Finn is this time voiced by Omar Miller. The actor previously starred alongside Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in Ballers and voiced Raphael in the animated reboot Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian
Voiced by Billy Dee Williams, the loveable rogue is invited to join the Life Day celebrations in the present, alongside a visible but silent incarnation of Jannah. Williams debuted the role in the original Star Wars trilogy, before Donald Glover took on the part in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Williams returned to the role in The Rise of Skywalker. Outside of the franchise, he's also known for his turn as Harvey Dent in Tim Burton's Batman.
Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico
After Rose was criminally underutilized in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, she serves as a stabilizing force in the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special — keeping the Life Day party on track and everybody's spirits up. Reprising the role she debuted in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Rose is voiced by Kelly Marie Tran. Outside of the intergalactic saga, Tran recently starred in Hulu's Monsterland and voiced the titular hero in Raya and the Last Dragon.
Jake Green as Poe Dameron
Sporting a BB-8-themed Christmas sweater, the redemptive rebel pilot and soldier attempted to lead the charge of the Life Day party in Rey's absence. Played famously in live-action by the MCU's future Moon Knight, Oscar Isaac, the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special version of Poe is instead voiced by Jake Green. The actor also voiced the infamous Greedo and several other miscellaneous figures in the short film. Green's previous credits include such popular video games as Last of Us: Part II and the recent Final Fantasy VII remake. He also recently starred in an episode of the popular sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Matthew Wood as Kylo Ren
The villain-turned-momentary-hero returned in his original masked (and occasionally without a shirt) glory as Rey inadvertently messed with the timeline. Previously played to acclaim by Adam Driver, the lego iteration is instead voiced by Matthew Wood. The actor also voiced the Rise of Skywalker's D-O droid for the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special. Wood has mostly worked behind the scenes, including on the inaugural MCU series, WandaVision. In terms of acting, however, he previously voiced several prominent Star Wars characters in various outings, including Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Eric Bauza as Luke Skywalker
Previously made a household name by Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker returned in several different forms as Rey hopped through the timeline. Despite Hamill's acclaimed forays in voice work, the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special's iteration was voiced by Eric Bauza. The actor has amassed a vast resume of voice roles over the years, including turns in Rick and Morty and the belated sports-sequel: Space Jam: A New Legacy.
Matt Sloan as Darth Vader
Portrayed by Matt Sloan, the original masked terror of the Star Wars franchise also returned as Rey visited where it all began. The move allowed a rare opportunity for the two to clash, as well as a chance for Darth Vader to glimpse other elements of the universe — including The Mandalorian's Baby Yoda. Sloan has taken over from James Earl Jones on several occasions, voicing Darth Vader in everything from Star Wars video games to, of all things, The Daily Show.
Trevor Devall as Emperor Palpatine
The ultimate Big Bad of the entire Skywalker saga made a gleeful return as Rey's time-travel allowed him a chance to remold the timeline more in his favor. Previously played to immense popularity by Ian McDiarmid, the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special's iteration of Emperor Palpatine is instead voiced by Trevor Devall. The actor recently voiced Rocket Raccoon in the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series and offered several unique performances in Netflix's recent Carmen Sandiego reboot.
A.J. LoCascio as Han Solo
A.J. LoCascio takes over from Harrison Ford and Alden Ehrenreich as Rey's adventure draws in multiple versions of the smuggler-turned-rebel-hero Han Solo. LoCascio is best known for providing the voice for Marty McFly in several Back to the Future video games. He has also racked up multiple separate credits in everything from Voltron: Legendary Defender to Nickelodeon's The Loud House.
Tom Kane as Yoda and Qui-Gon Jinn
Made famous by Frank Oz in the cinematic outings, Yoda returns in several guises (from alive and training Luke to be a Jedi, to a Force Ghost form) across Lego Star Wars Holiday Special. Even serving as the short film's narrator, Yoda is instead voiced by Tom Kane. The actor also briefly voiced Yoda's famous former Padawan, Qui-Gon Jinn for the film. Kane has previously played Yoda several times over the last few decades, in a variety of mediums. Kane's other recent credits also include Ghost of Tsushima and Sterling's ill-treated valet on multiple seasons of Archer.
James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi also appears in the short film in various guises as Rey secretly peeks into the character's progression — from his overzealous, unfocused youth to the famous Revenge of the Sith battle with Anakin. Previously played by Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor, the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special's version is voiced by James Arnold Taylor. The actor previously played Kenobi in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. His other credits include Young Justice and Netflix's acclaimed animated spinoff: Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.
Matt Lanter as Anakin Skywalker
The Star Wars saga's Chosen One, Anakin Skywalker also made an unmasked return, as Rey gleefully glimpsed the beginnings of his secret romance with Padme and fought around the events of his dramatic fall. Taking over from Hayden Christensen, the character was voiced by Matt Lanter. The actor previously played Anakin in everything from video games to Star Wars: Forces of Destiny. Lanter also had a cameo appearance as a New Republic Soldier in The Mandalorian season 1 and more prominently played Wyatt Logan on Timeless.
Grey Griffin as Maz Kanata
The ever-enigmatic Maz Kanata similarly returns alongside an uncredited Chewbacca for the aforementioned Life Day festivities. No longer played by Lupita Nyong'o, the character is instead voiced by Grey Griffin. In recent years, Griffin has provided several voices on The Simpsons. She can also be heard playing Amanda (aka Shrinking Ray) in Amazon's animated adaptation of Robert Kirkman's comic book series Invincible.
Ben Prendergast as Darth Maul and General Hux
The popular and intriguing menace of the Star Wars prequel trilogy (and subsequent animated shows) also made a return — hilariously sans legs but no less eager to fight. The character was previously established by Ray Park in live-action and then expanded upon by Sam Witwer in several Dave Filoni-created outings. Rather than either, Maul is this time voiced by Ben Prendergast, who also reprised his version of General Hux from Star Wars: Resistance. In recent years, Prendergast has also made appearances in Preacher and alongside Ethan Hawke in the cult time-travel movie, Predestination.
The 47-minute film has already been widely praised for its humor-laden approach to the universe. Silly and irreverent, it pokes fun and honors countless familiar elements in equal measure. As such, it marks a welcome, perfectly-timed respite between the more dramatic (and divisive nature) of the cinematic outings and whatever plans Disney and Lucasfilm have in store for the future. As a result, it has held on to a fresh Rotten Tomatoes rating, based on 17 reviews. Fans, however, can check it out and decide for themselves over the festive period. Lego Star Wars Holiday Special was officially released globally via Disney+ on November 17, 2020.
