LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the most ambitious game in the LEGO Star Wars series and, as a result, the amount of content in each Episode is limited. Traveller's Tales latest title is a culmination of all nine movies, plus additional content throughout the galaxy for fans to enjoy. The Skywalker Saga also features detailed and beautiful hub worlds for each movie that players can explore. While this title is the largest entry into the LEGO Star Wars series yet, some parts of the game were skipped, such as Episode 3's best level from The Complete Saga.

Traveller's Tales newest LEGO Star Wars improves upon its predecessors, with world exploration and enhanced combat. Along with the inclusion of over 300 playable characters in The Skywalker Saga, the game has been praised for having upgraded flying mechanics. This is a welcome improvement over the oftentimes clunky and unintuitive controls for the ships in previous titles. Each Episode has at least one level of space combat. These segments are fun and immerse fans into the Star Wars universe. However, one of the best space battles from The Complete Saga was left out of The Skywalker Saga.

Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith opens with Obi-Wan and Anakin fighting the Separatists, during the Battle of Coruscant. Amongst the fighting, the two Jedi fly onto General Grievous's command ship to save Chancellor Palpatine. The Complete Saga allows fans to play through the space battle, defeating enemies and gathering collectibles. Possibly due to crunch in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga's development, players are met with a comedic cutscene, resulting in Anakin and Obi-Wan crashing into some battle droids at a retirement party on the ship. While humorous, Traveller's Tales missed an opportunity to utilize their improved flight combat.

Missed Opportunities For Space Battles In LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga Space Battles

Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker's ending is action-packed and could have been The Skywalker Saga's best moment. In the Battle of Exogal, Rey and Kylo Ren fought the clone of Emperor Palpatine, while Finn and Jannah attacked the First Order on top of a Star Destroyer. Poe and Lando engaged the Final Order in space combat. While The Skywalker Saga let fans play through almost all the spectacular fights, the space battle was only shown in a cutscene. A New Hope also featured an iconic scene cut short. During the Battle of Yavin, players can perform the famous trench run to blow up the Death Star in The Skywalker Saga. The mission is rather linear and restrictive when compared to the ability to fly around in a wider area, in The Complete Saga. However, players can still experience the most important moments of the Battle of Yavin.

The Skywalker Saga has something for every fan of the franchise. The game gives players the chance to explore the galaxy to their heart's content, as any of their favorite characters. Traveller's Tales may have been a little over-ambitious with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, but the amount of content packed into this latest installment is enough to keep any fan satisfied. Still, it's sad that Episode 3's level got skipped over.
