A new chapter in the LEGO Ninjago lore will be explored as Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics have announced the release of an all new comic series. Stemming from the beloved franchise originating in LEGO sets with TV and film expansions, the upcoming LEGO Ninjago comic series will take fans on a deep dive into the story that makes the saga so great.

The all-new five-part LEGO Ninjago series was announced at the Skybound Halloween Xpo where Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment unveiled an official new chapter to Ninjago with LEGO Ninjago: Garmadon #1. The series will be helmed by Tri Vuong who will be the writer and artist behind the new book. This will be the first LEGO branded comic book series stemming from the partnership between Skybound Entertainment and global children’s book publisher AMEET.

The new comic series LEGO Ninjago: Garmadon will return fans to the infamous titular villain unlike they have ever seen him before. Far away from Ninjago City, a small village is being terrorized by a powerful and mysterious threat and only one hero rises to the occasion to save the residents from this horror. Shockingly, the hero that comes to the villagers' aid is none other than the known Ninjago villain Garmadon, the Lord of Destruction. Garmadon’s seemingly heroic feat will leave fans wondering if the one-time villain has truly reformed or if his act of heroism is all an act, setting up another one of his evil schemes in defeating Master Wu and the ninja forever.

It's been such a great opportunity to play within the LEGO universe,” said writer/artist Tri Vuong. “In our new series, we’re paying homage to the LEGO Ninjago franchise while expanding the mythology with new stories on this beloved property.” While Vuong states his excitement, those in charge of the new series’ launch have their eyes set on the future. “When it came to our first LEGO comic book series launch, we knew it had to be full of action, adventure and heartfelt drama,” said Sean Mackiewicz, Senior Vice President, Editor-In-Chief at Skybound Entertainment, noting that the LEGO Ninjago comic series is just the first of many more to come. Skybound also announced that there is an additional top-secret new series to be announced in partnership with AMEET in the coming year, with no hint as to what that could be, so LEGO fans will just have to wait in anticipation for that upcoming announcement.

While LEGO Ninjago: Garmadon will be the first of its kind with Skybound in partnership with AMEET, the series is far from the first LEGO Ninjago comic. Many other graphic novels featuring the LEGO ninja heroes exist including LEGO Ninjago #1: The Challenge of Samukai by Greg Farshtey as well as the same team behind the LEGO Bionicle comic series. However, many fans don’t recognize previous LEGO Ninjago comic series as they do not take place within the same continuity as the television show and are therefore non-canon. LEGO Ninjago: Garmadon promises to stay true to the established continuity of Ninjago offering additions to the lore rather than contradictions. LEGO Ninjago: Garmadon will be available to purchase April 6, 2022.
