Emmet, Wyldstyle, and the rest of the LEGO Movie gang encounter strange new worlds and characters in the trailer and posters for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. The original LEGO Movie hit theaters back in 2014 and went on to become a surprise critical and commercial success. Warner Bros. has since expanded the franchise into a cinematic universe that has yielded mixed returns so far. Case in point: last year's spinoff The LEGO Batman Movie thrived at the box office and went over well with critics, yet The LEGO Ninjago Movie (which also came out in 2017) disappointed both critically and finally.

Up next is The LEGO Movie 2, a direct sequel to the original LEGO adventure that was cowritten by LEGO Movie writer/director duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The duo share writing credit on The Second Part with Matthew Fogel (Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son), but were unable to call the shots this time around due to their commitment to Solo: A Star Wars Story at the time of production. Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After, Trolls) directed the sequel instead, with Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, and Alison Brie among those reprising their LEGO Movie voice roles for The Second Part. WB has now released a full-length trailer for the film, ahead of its release next February.

The LEGO Movie: The Second Part trailer has been made available online, ahead of its debut with fellow animated sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet in theaters over the Thanksgiving frame. Take a look in the space below, then check out the film's newly-unveiled poster and character one-sheets.

In addition to further highlighting the sequel's Mad Max-inspired setting, this new promo builds on The LEGO Movie 2's teaser trailer by highlighting the brand-new additions to the LEGO-verse. That includes Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Stephanie Beatriz as the space-faring General Mayhem, Tiffany Haddish as the shape-shifting alien Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi, and Pratt in a second role as Rex Dangervest: a "galaxy defending archaeologist cowboy and raptor trainer" who was introduced during The LEGO Movie 2's panel at San Diego Comic-Con back in July. All three characters have gotten posters of their own here, along with The LEGO Movie leads Emmet (Pratt), Lucy aka. Wyldstyle (Banks), LEGO Batman (Arnett), and Brie as Ultrakatty (formerly known as Princess Unikitty).

Based on the footage released so far, The LEGO Movie 2 is full to the brim with pop culture references and irreverent humor, much like its predecessor. At the same time, the sequel's trailers haven't exactly done a great job of explaining what the film is actually about. That could be reason for concern, seeing as the first LEGO Movie was as celebrated for its layered narrative (and messages about creativity and innovation) as it was for its playful animation and creative action-comedy set pieces. It's encouraging to hear that Lord and Miller cowrote the sequel but, with someone else at the helm, The LEGO Movie 2 could end up missing that special ingredient that made the first installment so, well, awesome. Time will tell, of course.
