Chris Pratt reveals at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 that he's voicing a second character in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, one that is based on his Jurassic World character Owen Grady. Before becoming a big screen star in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy and 2015's Jurassic World, Pratt voiced the character Emmet Brickowski - an everyday construction worker who truly believed that everything was awesome, including being a Master Builder - in Phil Lord and Chris Miller's The LEGO Movie.
Pratt is reprising his role as Emmet in next year's long-awaited sequel - which is being directed by Mike Mitchell and Trisha Gum this time around, though Lord and Miller still co-wrote the script with Raphael Bob-Waksberg and Michelle Morgan - along with several members of the original movie's cast, such as Elizabeth Banks as Wyldstyle, Will Arnett as Batman, and Nick Offerman as Metalbeard, among many others. However, Pratt is pulling double-duty in The LEGO Movie 2 by providing his voice for yet another character, one that is based on a previous movie role of his.
During Warner Bros. Pictures' Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, Pratt announced that he's voicing a second character in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, which was later revealed to be Rex Dangervest, a velociraptor trainer that's based on Pratt's Owen Grady from Universal Pictures' Jurassic World movies, in which Owen was a raptor trainer on Isla Nublar... before the island was taken over by the dinosaurs.
The studio debuted exclusive footage from The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part for Comic-Con 2018 attendees, footage that hasn't yet been posted online. Considering the video's nature, it seems likely that it was specifically created for people in Hall H, which isn't anything out of the ordinary, especially for a major studio like Warner Bros that has a massive slate of upcoming films. However, knowing that Rex Dangervest is a brand-new character voiced by Chris Pratt, fans have even more to look forward to when the next trailer for The LEGO Movie 2 debuts, though it might be awhile since the sequel isn't scheduled to release until early next year.
When the new trailer - and the movie, for that matter - does finally release, audiences can enjoy Pratt commanding, training, and wrangling yet another batch of velociraptors, just like he did in the first Jurassic World movie and attempted to do in the sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
