The recent leaks regarding the upcoming LEGO Super Mario Bros. set were accurate, as Nintendo has announced that a LEGO Luigi set is on the way. Luigi was curiously absent from the original LEGO Mario set, leading fans to speculate that he was being saved for the future.

The nightmare that all parents fear is coming to pass. A recent update for the original LEGO Mario figure added a feature where he started asking for Luigi. This means that LEGO and Nintendo have found a way to make toys start spouting advertisements for upcoming products. The question now is whether fans can expect to hear their LEGO Mario asking for Rosalina or Wario in the future, once those characters have figure sets lined up.

A recent Amazon China leak claimed that a LEGO Luigi set was on the way, leading many to expect the announcement. Fortunately, Nintendo didn't leave fans waiting and has officially announced the figure in a video on the Nintendo YouTube channel. The LEGO Luigi figure is part of the Adventures with Luigi Starter Set, which also comes with a pink Yoshi figure, a Bone Goomba, and a Boom Boom.

There's now a page for the 'Adventurers with Luigi Starter Set' on the official LEGO website. The set costs $59.99 USD and pre-orders are currently live. The sets are expected to ship on August 1, 2021, barring any potential issues like the ones faced last year. Like the Mario figure, the Luigi figure is interactive and it responds to different elements of the course. The goal of the Adventures with Luigi Starter Set is to defeat Boom Boom as part of the final challenge. The LEGO Luigi figure requires two AAA batteries to function.

It was only natural that a LEGO Luigi figure set would be in the works. The question now is whether more LEGO Mario sets are on the way? The LEGO Luigi figure was a given, but what about the other characters from the Mushroom Kingdom? Mobile games like Dr. Mario World and Mario Kart Tour have proven that the Super Mario Bros. characters can be reworked in a number of different ways, so there is a lot of scope for future LEGO Mario sets. It remains to be seen if the current crop of LEGO Mario figures will call out to these upcoming sets like Mario has done for Luigi, like some sort of Toy Story horror movie.
